On 10 mg amitriptyline for 8 months for ibs-d. If I stop cold turkey, will I experience withdrawal? What to expect for how long?

Stop Amitriptyline?: Amitriptyline, a TCA antidepressant, which may b rx'ed for illnesses including pain, Headaches, and IBS, when taken for long periods of time, can have a mild discontinuation syndrome if stopped abruptly (symptoms may include nausea, headache, malaise). Never stop a medication without the instruction of ur prescribing MD. Even if you don't have discontinuation sxs, u'll need a new tx for ur IBS! ...Read more

I've been on amitriptyline 10mg x1 at bedtime for 2.5 weeks now. If I see dr., and want to taper off, what withdrawal effects from this dosage?

I've been on amitriptyline 10mg x1 at bedtime for 2.5 weeks now. If I see dr., and want to taper off, what withdrawal effects from this dosage?

Very minimal: If you listed the dose correctly at 10 mg, you are taking virtually a homeopathic dose, that is a very minimal amount. At this level, no need to taper, just stop. Talk with you doctor about this, but the noted dose is far too small to help any of your problems. ...Read more

Not really: I am not sure what you mean by neuropathy symptoms but the answer is no. Amitriptyline can be used to treat neuropathic symptoms so eliminating this med may cause an underlying neuropathy to become more symptomatic. ...Read more

Can withdrawal from amitriptyline cause generalized itching? Doc cut my dosage in half starting 4 nights ago. Woke up itching today.

Only if its: If the Amitriptyline and it's antihistamine effect was blocking some allergy prior to the decrease. This could have unmasked an allergy that the Amitriptyline was actually treating previously. Otherwise there is no itching response involved in the withdrawal effect from amitriptyline. ...Read more

Can you tell me what to do if I stopped taking 200 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) I'm now on amitriptyline 50mg. Will I get a bad withdrawal?

Can you tell me what to do if I stopped taking 200 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) I'm now on amitriptyline 50mg. Will I get a bad withdrawal?

Hard to say: Amitriptilyn is fairly anticholinergic. It might give you a dry mouth, elevated heart rate, blurred vision when reading especially with a dose large enough to replace the 200 mg of zoloft (sertraline). Discuss this with your doctor. ...Read more

Can coming off co-codamol take months for the withdrawal symptoms to go? Prickly itching sensations. Just started amitriptyline for nerve pain.

Is Amitriptyline (10mg) safe and useful to take for testicular pain? Any side effects while or withdrawal symptoms after taking it? ~ like Citalopram

Unlikely to help?: Amitriptyline at low doses can be helpful for some neuropathic pain. Neuropathic testicular pain if it exists is rare. I would be looking for other explanations. At your age I would check for an inguinal hernia among other possibilities. ...Read more

Awful withdrawal symptoms from amitriptyline. Tapered from 75mg - 65mg. First 2 nights, fine. 3rd night - panic, nausea, faint. Can diazepam help?

Awful withdrawal symptoms from amitriptyline. Tapered from 75mg - 65mg. First 2 nights, fine. 3rd night - panic, nausea, faint. Can diazepam help?

Not first recourse: Diazepam (valium) hangs around the system a long time. Exchanging a need for Amitriptyline for a need for valium isn't a great bargain! Such a small dosage drop shouldn't cause withdrawal--unless you have a threshhold at 70 mg. What to do depends on why the med and why the taper. But I would have your doc help you do without a benzodiazepine like valium, except short-acting and short-term. ...Read more

Call doctor: The fact that you don't have insurance doesn't prevent you from seeing your physician. Call and make an appointment to continue treatment. Explain that you no longer have insurance and will pay for your treatment.

Switched from amitriptiline to 20mg cymbalta (duloxetine). Horrible nausea, not sure if it's withdrawal or side effects. Is 25mg of dramamine okay?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I've had to come off 25 mg amitriptyline in 2 weeks. I feel dreadful and I'm vomiting. How long does withdrawal last usually?

Hello: You were on a fairly low dose. I wonder if this is related completely to stopping Amitriptyline or if you might also have morning sickness. Please discuss w your obstetrician. In the mean time, a simple way to reduce sxs is with ginger. You can drink slightly flattened ginger ale or nibble on crystallized ginger. Or pour boiling water over freshly sliced organic ginger & steep at least 5 min. ...Read more
