Suggest Abilify (aripiprazole).: Amitriptyline does not generally lead to suicidal thoughts, but in any case, adding 2 mg of Abilify (aripiprazole) each morning may give you significant relief from the depression and thoughts of suicide. If you haven't already, please contact your primary care provider right away and describe your symptoms. Avoid ALL alcohol. Call 911 if thinking very seriously about suicide and have a plan. ...Read more

Pain and insomnia: Difficult to say, but Amitriptyline is commonly used in pain management and also for insomnia. It is not a pain medication, but can be helpful in managing pain. The dose of 5 mg is not generally sufficient to treat depression, so appears it appears the prescribing Dr. was targeting other symptoms. Hope this is helpful. ...Read more

Discontinuation : the symptoms are not inconsistent with withdrawal due to amitriptyline's anticholinergic properties but would have not been expected given the starting dose for reduction was low at 10mg per day. assuming no other known causes for symptoms best approach is to restart at initial dose and resume taper a at slower rate. ...Read more
