Amitriptyline And Citalopram
Not advisable: It is not advisable to use citalopram and Elavil (amitriptyline) together since there is an increased risk of serotonin syndrome, which although quite rare can happen. A more important issue however is that citalopram and Amitriptyline can both prolong your qtc interval on your ekg. This can lead to a fatal arrhythmia. It would require ongoing ekg monitoring. Please discuss these issues with your prescribing physician. ...Read more

Are recurring health thoughts hyphochondria or ocd? Have to tell myself every 2 seconds that i'm ok, and don't have cancer. Which is better to treat? Amitriptyline or celexa (citalopram)?
None, counseling: It sounds like you already diagnosed yourself! i would talk to a counselor or your familydoc about your feelings. Sometimes it is better to get some reassurance or getting to the bottom of why you feel this way instead of taking pills that have side effects that make you worried again! good luck! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Tried celexa, (citalopram) amitriptyline, and trazodone for anxiety, all have caused heart racing and palps, also still anxious. Any suggestions? Am I imagining?
What do you think is the best antidepressant for depression, OCD and GAD? I've tried citalopram, amitriptyline and cymbalta (duloxetine) so far and nothing .
See below.: U can speak w/ your dr. about a trial of Effexor (venlafaxine) which may help for depression & GAD & to a lesser degree for OCD. Seek a referral to a therapist w/ training & experience in teaching relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, guided imagery & muscle relaxation prior to a trial of exposure and response prevention, systematic desensitization or flooding. Luvox or Anafranil may also help for OCD. ...Read more
It depends: The safety of this combination depends on the doses of both medications, since they can affect each other's metabolism in your body. If your doctor is prescribing and monitoring in this way, then the combination may be useful and safe for you. ...Read more
Does amitriptyline work well for hypochondria? I'm only on 10mg, x4 weeks. Not helping much, brought my appetite back, thats it. Can i take citalopram 10mg in morning and amtriptyline 10mg at bedtime?
Need therapy too: Amitriptylene does not "work for hypochondria" per se, but it can decrease certain physical symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, and loss of appetite. At this low dose it can be taken safely at bedtime while you're also on Celexa (citalopram) -- hoping you're working with a psychiatrist on this. Individual psychotherapy is essential in hypochondriasis, so you learn to work with anxiety in healthy ways. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
