Aminotransferase (Overview)

Aminotransferase: an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of an amino group from a donor molecule to a recipient molecule. The donor molecule is usually an Amino Acid and the recipient molecule is usually an alpha-2 keto acid. Two of the best-known enzymes in this class are serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (sgpt), both of which are normally found.

Max 3.2 ng: Sensitivity of prostatic acid phosphatase is very low 39% of the prostatic carcinomas acid phosphatase level was below the upper limit of normal fixed at 3.2ng. Specificity is high t 96% of cases with abnormally high ri acid phosphatase levels, the diagnosis was adenocarcinoma. In the absence of bone metastases high acid phosphatase level is predictive of lymph node involvement in 90%. ...Read more

Increased aldolase, complement c3/c4 serum, sed rate, c-react. Protein, beta globulin, monocytes, bun/creatin low mcv-mch, vit d-possible causes?

Complicated: When i was doing clinical medicine, these were collectively sort of the flags for sarcoid disease but I am not saying that's the case here. This is because sarcoid is a diagnosis of exclusion so the advice is to rule out other diseases with additional diagnostic tests which can be done by a primary care physician or rheumatologist. ...Read more

Whats pyruvate dehydrogenase complex?

Whats pyruvate dehydrogenase complex?

Enzymes: Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex is a complex of three enzymes in the mitichondria that change the Amino Acid pyruvate into the molecule acetyl-coa by a process called pyruvate decarboxylation. Acetyl-coa is used in the citric acid cycle to make energy for cells the complex links the metabolic pathway that breaks down glucose (elemental sugar) to the citric acid cycle. ...Read more

Can autoantibodies against glutamine synthetase and/or glutamate dehydrogenase cause glutamate metabolism disorders?

Can autoantibodies against glutamine synthetase and/or glutamate dehydrogenase cause glutamate metabolism disorders?

Still searching: Glutamine synthase is part of the glutamine synthetase family. Ammonia incorporation in animals occurs through the actions of glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthase. Glutamate plays the central role in mammalian nitrogen flow, serving as both a nitrogen donor and nitrogen acceptor. I am unble to find references in my search so far as to autoantibodies to these but see comment. ...Read more

It means you're sick: Please forgive my frankness. Your physician has a duty to begin or continue your workup for hyperbilirubinemia and elevated liver transaminases, and to explain what he/she is doing. What are ldh isoenzymes?

What are ldh isoenzymes?

Obsolete test: There are five forms of the ldh enzyme. Type i is especially abundant in heart, and if it was higher than type ii, it was a marker for heart attack. If all five were equally high, think infectious mono, type v was marker for skeletal muscle or liver injury, and so forth, type iii for a lung infarct. It was helpful but today's labs are more sensitive and more specific. ...Read more
