Doctor insights on:
Ambroxol is a…: Mucolytic agent, i.e., it makes mucus & sputum thinner & less viscous (sticky) & therefore more easily removed by coughing; so it is beneficial in diseases associated with increased mucus production (acute/chronic bronchitis, copd). It also appears to have anti-inflammatory properties. None of the articles I reviewed noted that this drug is not available in the us. Ask your fp/pharmacist. ...Read more
My cough is almost 2 weeks until now, I'm taking ambroxol and antibacterial, why the cough is there?

See Your Doctor Now: 4 yr old taking antitusive "safe to give ambroxol"? Cough has many causes, at her age infection is most likely. Giving suppressants without knowing the cause can allow an undiagnosed infection to develop complications like pneumonia. Ambroxol reportedly controls mucous production which also occurs in infection. Do NOT give Ambroxol. See your child's doctor now for correct diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more
My 6mo old was prescribed loratadine/ambroxol. She seems very drowsy, why? And how long will it stay I her system?
Mgt: If your baby is more drowsy/lethargic, not feeding well, please see your ED. This may not be related to the medications, but rather to an illness. The ambroxol should be discontinued until further evaluation is completed. For excessive mucus production, nasal saline drops and gentle suction is the only treatment advised in this age group, unless there is a tracheostomy or some other problem. ...Read more

Hi, my baby is of 14 weeks old, he is having cough n cold, doctor has given him ambroxol hydrochloride is it safe?
My. 8month baby has cough and temperature my doctor is not available but he gave me amoxilin and ambroxol. Is it safe?
Not so much: I would rather you go to an urgent care center than start some antibiotic that would cover up a real medical problem. I consider such a practice sloppy work and dangerous. The mother of the last kid I treated for bacterial meningitis called in asking for antibiotics because her doc was not available. ...Read more
Can I give my baby hydroxyzine hydrochloride syrup with ambroxol hydrochloride syrup? Hope they don't react with each other.
MixingMedsDangers: You should always consult with your physician before mixing medications. Ambroxol is not available in the US so I can't comment on how it interacts with Hydroxyzine but as I said above - always talk with your physician or even the pharmacist before using multiple medications especially in children! ...Read more

Confused a med with ambroxol with baby drops for eye and put the med on her eye baby cried alot, will it damage her eye? And it sure burns I tried.
It Can: Direct contact of ambroxol with the eye may cause transient discomfort characterised by tearing or conjunctival redness. Slight abrasive damage may also result, so I would recommend seeing an ophthalmologist. Also, there may be other chemicals in the medication that could irritate or damage the eye. Take the medication with you to the eye doctor. ...Read more
I'm using following tablets for my asthma treatment 1)ruptadine&montelukast 2)ambroxol, terbutaline&etofylline 3)sertalin r they safe for long term use?
If ok'd by the FDA: Any medication can have bad side effects in a few people. Medications that are approved for long term use by the FDA are considered safe, but doctors and patients still keep an eye out for undesired reactions. Also, "long term" may mean 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years, etc... Doctors on HealthTap that are U.S. doctors generally do not have much information on foreign medications. ...Read more

Mucosolvan: Mucosolvan and other cough and cold remedies are not recommended for children under 2 years of age and should not be given. Research has shown that these medications do not work in young children and can do more harm than good. The best thing to do for a child who has a cough and cold is to run a humidifier, have them drink plenty of fluids and use saline drops and a nasal aspirator (if they allow you to). If you think your child may be having difficulty breathing, call your child's doctor right away. ...Read more

Mucosolvan: It depends on the age of the person taking the medicine. On the manufacture's website it states that for an adult, one dose is 30 mg. It doesn't give the concentration of the syrup so I can't be more specific. Check the package insert for dosing instructions or consult with your pharmacist or physician for more details. ...Read more
What can I do to speed up my lungs clearing rubbish from years of smoking? Does mucosolvan pills help? Can I take daily without side effects
Took telfast d, mucosolvan in the afternoon. Sangobion, and 4 lacteol fort pills from the pharmacist for condition. Will this result in an overdose?
See doctor again: You are spending a lot of money taking so many different kinds of supplements and cough medication, yet I see nothing that is really of value except for possibly the lacteol for your bowel issues. Shouldn't you consult a doctor instead of a pharmacist? While I see no major problem with the stuff you are taking however except for a hit on your pocketbook. ...Read more
