Melatonin and Ambien: do not have significant interaction. Melatonin (OTC) has a role in regulation of the sleep-wake cycle. May dose up to 20 mg/d. Ambien (prescribed) improves sleep onset; best taken without food. If effect lost then consult prescriber to review your situation and determine best course of action. What are the most common symptoms and effects when Valium 10mg and Ambien 10mg are combined for a single time use, and what is the average duration?
Wow: I'd avoid that combination. Valium is relatively short acting. Ambien should only be taken if you have a window of 8 hours where you expect to be asleep. Have somebody keep an eye on you to make sure you don't get in trouble (respiratory suppression, sleep walking etc). Realize that Ambien is for occasional use (insomnia). I'm prescribed 10mg Ambien to take every night, and been on it for 5+ months. I've built up a tolerance, is there a higher dose I can take?
No: Ambien 10 mg is the maximum dose. The problem with ALL the tranquilizer type sleep meds is you build a tolerance to them and they don't work after a while. This is why it's best not to take these every night. Taking them every 2-3 nights works better. Alternative meds that could help with sleep are Trazodone, Remeron, or Vistaril. These often are not addicting/do not cause tolerance. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
