Could be either : Actually, it could be either of the reasons you listed. First, Ambien (zolpidem) should work for ~6-7 hours. That said, If you've been taking Ambien (zolpidem) for awhile, talk to your doctor about the possibility of rotating medications. This usually helps to reduce tolerance.
