Extreme emetophobic and have been given Cipramil (10mg). So afraid to take it each day because I'm petrified and make myself feel sick. Help!
It's safe: Cipramil (generic = citalopram) is a "second generation" antidepressant also used to treat anxiety. They have far fewer side effects than the older "first generation" ones. The chance of your vomiting from this low dose is about zero. The chance of your fear continuing if you don't give the med a try is 100%. At some point please consider therapy for coping strategies. ...Read more
Is there anything a anesthesiologist can do to prevent nausea after surgery? I'm emetophobic and really afraid. I've fasted since 7pm and my surgery I
Many options: First, let them know your concern. They can give you a scopolamine patch, give you meds while you are asleep, to a total IV anesthetic and avoid gases to prevent nausea. They can also give you non opioid meds prior to surgery to help with pain so that less opioids will be used. Unlikely: If you have already taken Flagyl without any vomiting for some days, then it is unlikely that additional use of this drug will cause you nausea. Moreover this drug is fairly well tolerated and it does not cause significant amount of nausea or vomiting. Just take it without thinking about nausea (Do not anticipate it); I expect you to have no problems. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Emetophobic. I am taking penicillin for tonsillitis. Taken it many times before but nervous this time. How common are vomiting side effects. Scared?
Penicillin.: Although any medication can cause side effects, vomiting would be unlikely in this setting. Although vomiting can be a rare side effect of penicillin, if you do not have any nausea or vomiting to start with, it is doubtful that you will get any now.
