What do you do when debate over what to do with a parent has to do with a little more than sibling rivalry?

What do you do when debate over what to do with a parent has to do with a little more than sibling rivalry?

Know what is winning: Often there is no single right way to deal with parents and siblings. Rather than focusing on rivalry, it can be more helpful to understand each person's point of view and see increased understanding of each other as the big win in family situations. You are also given an opportunity to learn something about yourself through these emotional conflicts. Why not appreciate the wisdom gained? ...Read more

Need to go pick up older parent for first medical exam in new small town. How can I best relate to the staff if I am from major city?

Respect and Expect: Respect the pace of small town life, as this may likely translate into the pace of the medical clinic. But, expect excellent care and results. So for the past year I have noticed a small Cessna plane following me(it seems)everywhere I go.My house, parents, work, you name it.People think im nuts.

You need help: You feel like a plane is following you despite other people not seeing what you are seeing. This describes a type of visual hallucination or mental delusion. This may be due to mental illness, medications like chlordiazepoxide or percocet, alcohol use, drug use (marijuana, meth, cocaine, heroin, pcp), or physical disease (thyroid, diabetes). See psychiatrist ASAP as mental illness is most likely. ...Read more

Which parent determines the sex of a child?

Which parent determines the sex of a child?

Both and neither: Male chromosomes are xy, females are xx, so if conception is combining one from each, you might say that the male determines. However, the hormone balance, temperature and other factors in the mother's body influence whether xs or ys are favored. But, bottom line, none of this is under conscious control so really neither parent has control. ...Read more

So im only 16, i've had sex but never gotten a papsmear what am i suppose to do? I've not told my parents either and don't intend sex, papsmear

So im only 16, i've had sex but never gotten a papsmear what am i suppose to do? I've not told my parents either and don't intend sex, papsmear

Although : Although the new recommendations are not to start screening for cervical cancer until age 21 (which is the purpose of a pap smear). You can protect yourself now against the hpv virus (certain types of hpv are known to cause cervical cancer) by getting vaccinated. Call your pediatricain's office and inquire about getting vaccinated, you may not need your parent's consent. Also contact a local family planning clinic for assistance. Also, since you are sexually active i recommend you get an std check. Always remember to protect yourself with condoms in addition to another form of birth control to protect against pregnancy. Take good care and be responsible. ...Read more

Can I please have your reasons why you think so, e.G. For or against."should all parents be allowed to select the sex of their child through pgd/ivf?"

Against: Unless there is some compelling extraordinary reason to do so, I am against it. In general, i feel that one of the downsides of human intelligence, is this need to control, control, control. Perhaps we should extract more wisdom from nature, rather than trying to direct and control. There is something to be said for the art of selflessness, as opposed to the actions of selfishness. ...Read more

I'm 21. I've had chest pains since I was little. My doctor said I was just wanting my parent's attention, but could there be something wrong?

It depends: Chest pain has many causes. This can range from muscular skeletal to heart attacks. Fortunately for you, blockages to the arteries of the heart are really uncommon in 21 y/o. Family history and other risk factors play a roll in early heart disease. There is a inexpensive outpatient ct scan looking at calcium score which could give you a handle on your risk factors if you are concerned. ...Read more
