Are there other alternatives to enbrel (etanercept) and humira?

Are there other alternatives to enbrel (etanercept) and humira?

Yes: It depends on the disease being treated. For psoriasis (my field is dermatology), there is infliximab (remicade), ustekinemab (stelara), alefacept (amevive) - not used much now and golimumab (simponi) - not used much either.

I was on humira and felt terrible, is enbrel (etanercept) any better?

I was on humira and felt terrible, is enbrel (etanercept) any better?

It's different: Different people react differently to different medications. It is possible that you will have the same trouble with Enbrel (etanercept) but it's also possible that you will have no trouble with enbrel (etanercept). The only way to know for certain is to try it.

What is the difference in mechanism or humira and enbrel (etanercept)?

None: There both basically work by the same mechanism which is inhibition of tnp.

What's average amount of time people can take biologics (ex: humira (adalimumab) or enbrel) before developing an immunity to it? Do all patients develop immunity?

See below: Patients are more apt to develop resistance to biologic if they are not on methotrexate. However; not all patients are candidate to be on methotrexate. Some patients never have a problem and some do. It is hard to comment on the average amount of time because it is an individual phenomena.

Is there a waiting period between changing from enbrel (etanercept) to humira? If so, how long? Then how long before humira begins to work?

Is there a waiting period between changing from enbrel (etanercept) to humira? If so, how long? Then how long before humira begins to work?

One week: I would start Humira one week after your last Enbrel (etanercept) injection. There is no hard and fast rule. I have seen Humira work as quickly as within two weeks and as long as three months. These medications should be given for at least three months before switching. Good luck.

Is there a difference in humira and enbrel (etanercept) treatment of psoriasis?

No great...: No great differences. Enbrel (etanercept) is once weekly and Humira is once every two weeks. They have similar efficacy in large trials, but differences exist between individuals! Both should be tried only after Methotrexate therapy has failed!

On actemra (tocilizumab) IV (dose increase in dec)and methotrexate for 5 mon now but still having bad flare ups. Tried humira, enbrel, etc. Since diagnosis in Dec 2013?

Your question is?: Your have not asked a question. This issue needs to be discussed with your rheumatologist. No one can give you specific advice over the internet without a complete history and exam.

Was on humira (adalimumab) weekly&psoriasis came back. Now on enbrel&25mg methotraxte. Do u think psorias will clear? Y did humira (adalimumab) stop working? Stress overpower it?

Both work: It's your these medicines are effective. The reason medication stop working may depend on many factors. Sometimes the body develops resistance to a medication that is working fine. The resistance can occur because of antibodies against the drug. It can also occur because the mechanism of the disease of the illness can change differently at the molecular level. You doctor can better answer this.

Child has JRA failed enbrel and had side effects from it so dr gave choice humira or remicade (infliximab) Which is better? I'm confused snd do know what to do!

TNF Inhibitors: All of the medications offered to your child work in similar ways the difference is how the meds are given. Humira (adalimumab) is an injection that can be done at home every two weeks, while remicaide is an IV medication that must be done in an infusion unit or hospital. These medication have similar side effects and benefits. My advice is try the medication that is least disruptive to your lifestyle.

Psoriasis+psor. Arthritis. Methotrexate 15mg for 2 mos. Already+humira weekly. Dr say stelera no good for arthr...Says remicade (infliximab) or enbrel maybe. Ok?

Nod to others:: Humira is a tnfa antibody, and is similar to envbrel. Remicade (infliximab) is an antibody to the tnfa receptor, so it works differently. But I would have tried you on leflunomide, and oral drug, before starting biologics.

What is it like to have any experience with blood monitoring for anti tnf therapy (humira/enbrel) whilst traveling for multi stop flights abroad?

What is it like to have any experience with blood monitoring for anti tnf therapy (humira/enbrel) whilst traveling for multi stop flights abroad?

See details: People who are stable on TNF biologics do not require blood test monitoring more than once every 3 months. Those in my practice who have been stable for years only have monitoring every 6 months.

Talk to RA doctor: These are issues which need be discussed with your RA doctor. In medicine, most decisions made are based on risk/benefit ratio and without knowing that, it is impossible to provide you with an answer in this type of interaction.

Rheumatoid arthritis for 7 yrs. On methotrexate & prednisone. Tried so many drugs (orencia, enbrel, (etanercept) humira...). Feeling defeated. What else can I try?

Other choices: Some older drugs such as Plaquenil may help, especially with fatigue. There are also newer drugs that act via different mechanisms such as actemra (tocilizumab). I assume the diagnosis of RA is definite. If not, retest other possibilities. An exercise program may be very beneficial, especially if you start slowly and build up with hurting yourself. Don't give up hope. You can get better.

RA + psoriasis. MTX allergy. Enbrel (etanercept) non effective. Humira semi-effective but Vectra score 30 with extreme fatigue. MD wants to try Xeljanz?

RA + psoriasis: There are a number of newer medications that could help you. Xeljanz works by disrupting cytokine and growth factor signaling pathways. A trial of the medication is useful to see whether it helps you. Other medications that might help include Remicade (infliximab) and Apremilast
