Alternative Treatments For Proteus Mirabilis
Proteus mirabilis: I am assuming you have UTI with this organism. If so, Amoxicillin may be quite effective, assuming the strain you have is sensitive. Of greater concern is the fact that this bug is often present more often in complicated utis and perhaps this should be discussed with your doctor. Good luck. ...Read more
Proteus mirabilis: This would be incredibly unusual and would seriously question the diagnosis. This organism is most commonly found in the GI tract and can cause uti. Often on the surface of the skin, but seldom if ever the cause of infection. See an infectious diseases expert and get examined. Good luck. ...Read more
I read that proteus mirabilis produces ammonia? So what if i disinfect a area with ammonia or windex? Will it disinfect it or make it stronger?
Proteus mirabilis: Proteus mirabilis produces ammonia as a by-product of its metabolism, it does not use it as a food source. Wiping down an area with an ammonia-based cleaner will not make it stronger. By-products of metabolism are often actually toxic to the organism. Using an ammonia-based cleaner should disinfect well. ...Read more
Is it normal that proteus mirabilis becomes resistant to prulifloxacin? And in what cases it becomes resistant??
Yes: Some bacteria, (fortunately not all), including P. Mirabilis, can become resistant to any antibiotic which it was previously sensitive to. This usually happens when the bacteria has been exposed to that antibiotic ( or a similar antibiotic from the same group) on a number of occasions and it develops a mechanism to evade the effect of the antibiotics. ...Read more
Spreader: This motile bacteria will spread out across the surface of an agar plate and often obliterate the growth of other organisms which may be present. It ferments lactose and produces urease, releasing ammonia which make the area alkaline. If this happens in the urine due to infection it can result in kidney stones. ...Read more
Normal.: Proteus Mirabilis is a normal part of the human gastrointestinal bacterial flora. No worries. ...Read more
Proteus mirabilis: This is a potential cause of urinary tract infection, or if you have spillage of fecal contents into the peritoneum from a bowel perforation it may be part of the polymicrobial flora. There is nothing specific about the symptoms due to this gram-negative bacillus, one of the enterobacteriaceae. ...Read more
Whats the difference between a urinanaylsis and a urine culture? Which would be best to detect proteus mirabilis? Would both be able to do it?
Cultures are best: A urinalysis is a quick check of the urine that shows the presence of blood, protein, ph, specific gravity, and a quick evaluation of possible infection. It can be done in a couple of minutes by machine. A urine culture takes about 48 hours and will identify the bacterial organism and give the physician a list of the the proper antibiotics to use. ...Read more
A question answered here said proteus mirabilis can be passed by human contact. Then i asked if it could be passed sexually. Answer was no. Is it true?
Yes, no, or maybe: Depends on how one looks at the words. Sexual contact is a type of human contact, so anything that can be transmitted by human contact obviously can be transmitted by sexual contact. However, doctors usually only say the typical std's (sti's, sexually transmitted infections) are transmitted sexually. Chicken pox can go from person to person while they have sex, but it's "not sexually transmitted". ...Read more
What to do if i found out i had a UTI caused by proteus mirabilis. My doctor said my boyfriend doesn't need to be treated?
I had proteus mirabilis in vagina not in urine. Could my husband get it from me since it was in my vagina? How would he get tested
Proteus mirabilis: This common bowel organism, if culture vaginally may or may not be significant because its motility allows it to overgrow other organisms, if any, on the culture plate. It is unlikely, although conceivable, that your husband may become colonized, and potentially infected. Not worth testing for unless he becomes symptomatic. ...Read more
What if i give oral sex to someone that has proteus mirabilis? What would it infect? Would it be able to travel all the way to my urinary tract?
I need a second opinion. I have proteus mirabilis. Was given amoxcillin 500mg for 5 days twice a day. Is this effective? Doctor didn't sound so sure
If i gave oral sex to someone with proteus mirabilis, would it be passed on to me? I know the UTI can't be passed, but what about the bacteria itself?
I had uti due to proteus mirabilis i took prufloxacin 10 days, did urine culture last week its gd but now i have cloudy urine no burning!what it means?
I had proteus mirabilis. I am pregnant so want my husband tested for it. Would he need a urine test or a culture? If so what type of doctor is needed?
He does not need: Bacteria that cause bladder infections are not considered std's. Unless he has symptoms of a bladder infection (which is rare in men) he does not need testing. You, on the other hand, need treatment during a pregnancy for a UTI and a followup culture in a couple of weeks to assure that it is cleared. And then a culture each trimester would be indicated. ...Read more
Would a urine culture for UTI show up proteus mirabilis? Or show that that bacteria is present? Or would I have to ask for a specific test for that
Can proteus mirabilis be transferred sexually? I'm pregnant with this bacteria. The doctor said my boyfriend doesn't need to be treated? Is this true?
