Good chance: Depending on the severity of the meningitis, I have found that most of my patients do very well, and have a full, or near full recovery. Occasionally, there are cases that leave behind scars that can lead to seizures, or brain injury. Not reliable: If you're having symptoms of meningitis or heart disease (palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath), the sed rate is utterly worthless as a way of ruling out disease and even a normal CBC proves nothing. Unlikely: No deaths have been reported with nasal vaccine. In large series there were no severe side effects. There are few reports of meningitis and even fewer of encephalitis that were reported after introduction of the vaccine. These complications are listed in the package insert and the fda web site.
