What's the best treatment to get rid of itp?

What's the best treatment to get rid of itp?

Many options....: Traditionally, acute itp was treated with ivig, which leverages anti-idiotype effect and fc receptor engagement to block PLT degradation. Winrho has been used. It recognizes a protein on the surface of red cells and essentially ties up the reticuloendothelial system. But it causes a mild anemia, so has fallen out of favor. Steroids, rituximab, splenectomy, and thrombopoietin agonists r options. ...Read more

Why would my dr keep me on treatments for itp without stopping in almost 6 years?

Why would my dr keep me on treatments for itp without stopping in almost 6 years?

I would ask your Dr.: Sometimes patients with itp will end up on a chronic medical regimen because efforts to wean off their rx leads to recurrent bleeding. For example, after a course of steroids you may be able to wean to a vey low, even every other day dose, but complete discontinuation leads to bleeding reminiscent of the original diagnosis. With new options for medical mgmt, may be time to revisit this issue. ...Read more

Are steroid joint injections contraindicated FOR itp treatment or IN itp patients? Thanks

If controlled: Ask your doctor for individual recommendations Theoretically if platelet count is good ( bleeding risk is controlled) then the steroid would not be contraindicated but if you are already receiving steroids ITP treatment then I'm not sure how much more an injection has to offer. ...Read more

Is it ok to take Prozac (fluoxetine) if I have ITP? Had my levels checked a month and a half ago, I've never needed treatment for it. Dr wants me to start Prozac (fluoxetine).

?: Prozac and other SSRIs have been associated with vasculitis and impaired platelet function. I see you are taking amitriptyline which can also affect platelet function. As far as I know Wellbutrin (bupropion) is the only antidepressant that has not been reported to affect platelets and other blood cells ...Read more

I have ITP - never needed treatment. I'm on Prozac for anxiety. What can I take that is safe if I have a headache? Tylenol (acetaminophen)? Aleve?

Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen (Tylenol (acetaminophen) and many other over the counter meds) is safe because unlike Aleve (ibuprofen) it has no effect on platelet function. Aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) do affect platelet function, which increases risk of bleeding, which is already increased in ITP due a lower platelet count. ...Read more

Talk to hematologist: Looks like your platelet count is dropping progressively and thus the chance to get a severe hemorrhage is high at this rate. I presume that you have been worked up thoroughly to rule out potential causes. Since you are not without problem, you need to work closely with your hematologist re. monitoring and treatment before something serious happens. ...Read more

Is there treatment in homeopathy or aayurveda for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura?

Is there treatment in homeopathy or aayurveda for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura?

Possibly: For help with this, please consult a well-trained, experienced professional homeopath who can thoroughly take your case. I have seen single-remedy homeopathy yield results, where conventional medicine sometimes falls short. Please collaborate with your conventional physician on this also, though. Most skillful homeopathic physicians will see the wisdom in a joint approach. ...Read more
