Is Tylenol better than Advil for headache?

Is Tylenol better than Advil for headache?

Tylenol: They both may relieve headache. Advil has an additional effect of being anti-inflammatory and Tylenol does not but doesn't irritate the stomach lining or cause fluid retention. Because of this I would favor taking Tylenol if it's effective.

Ibuprofen (Definition)

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (nsaid). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Ibuprofen is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, menstrual ...Read more

A: A number of things should be noted from your questions. First - it is generally not a good practice to take medication, whether "over-the-counter" or prescription, from someone else. Even well intentioned friends may not know important details of your medical history that may make it unwise or dangerous to use certain medications. Second - "tylenol" is a brand name for acetaminophen, and "advil" is a brand name for ibuprofen. Although both of these medications can be used for fever or pain reduction, they are different types of medication. Whether either of them is safe or correct for you to use could only be determined based on your medical background: important facts would include medications you may take for chronic conditions, and any history of allergies or intolerance of other medications. Third - there are many online "pill identifier" websites now; but the medication you are referring to may not be referenced since it is an over-the-counter product. Better to consult with your physician about what medications are right for you, and take only medication that you can verify by it's source bottle or package.

What to do if I had a brow lift and tylenol/advil are not helping?

See doc: I would normally give some narcotic pain medication after this operation. I would see your doc and let him/her examine you to make sure u are not having any complications and to possibly be given a prescription for stronger medication.

What are some alternatives to tylenol/advil that can relieve pain from a brow lift?

Ice: Tylenol, (acetaminophen) Ibuprofen or narcotic pain medications are all very helpful. However, icing your forehead and eyes can also be very effective at preventing swelling, bruising and reducing pain. I hope this information is helpful. Stephen weber, M.D. Lone tree facial plastic surgeon.

See below: Without knowing whether you have normal kidney function as well normal liver function it difficult to answer. If everything is normal, the advil can be taken every 8 hours, and tylenol (acetaminophen) every 6 hours but no more than what is recommended on the packaging.

Is it okay to stagger doses of tylenol/advil for feverish child (5 yrs old)?

Is it okay to stagger doses of tylenol/advil for feverish child (5 yrs old)?

Why ever???: Fever is a normal body response that increases metabolism, heart rate & breathing to fight infection. It is a sign not the problem. I find it abusive to wake a child for fever meds or constantly be giving something in the false hope that it does something good. Kids need ample fluids, nutrition & rest to recover from an illness. If I choose to medicate I pick the longer acting drug & stick with it

See doctor: You can take tylenol for the fever and cough syrup but with fevers that high you may have something serious like pneumonia. If your fevers persist or if you are short of breath at all see a doctor right away.

How many pain killers like ibuprofen tylenol/advil can a person take per month?

Limit use: 2400mg maximum of ibuprofen (advil) per day. Acetaminophen (tylenol), no more than 2000mg/day to be relatively safe. There are risks even with lower doses.

I have tension headaches almost every day. Advil/tylenol doesn't always help. What can I do to get rid of them?

Tension Headache?: I believe that your question mush first be answered with a question. Was it a physician who diagnosed your headaches as tension headaches? If the answer is yes, there may be choices of additional meds that can be added to the AdvilTylenol. However it should be the diagnosing physician who should add additional meds. If you made the diagnosis of "tension" headache" consider consulting a neurologist

I'm currently on Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). Is it ok to take the occasional Excedrin or Advil? Tylenol doesn't really help my headaches.

I'm currently on Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). Is it ok to take the occasional Excedrin or Advil? Tylenol doesn't really help my headaches.

Occasional ok: Occasional Motrin is ok. However ssris affect platelet aggregation which can lead to easy bruising. Take Motrin with food or milk to avoid developing a gastric ulcer. If you are having migraines often consider Topamax (topiramate) or elavil for prevention.

I have atypical neuralgia and so far just take Advil which doesn't help. Is there a more effective pain med without Tylenol as I'm allergic to it?

NSAIDS do not help: Neuralgia (neuropathic pain) does not respond well to anti inflammatory medicines. True neuralgia first line med should be low dose Amitriptyline an hr before bed. OR Gabapentin slowly increasing the dose over 1 month with meals to tolerate side effects OR lyrica (pregablin) start at bed time low dose. DIet exercise no alcohol no cigarettes, 8 -10 hrs of sleep/ night. See your primary care f

You: You may have strained the muscles/joints in your neck. I would recommend resting your neck, adjusting your computer screen so you do not have to look up or down, regular anti-inflammatory (discuss with your doctor what is safe for you) and hot shower and neck stretches once or twice a day. If this does not work then you should see your doctor for assessment and physical therapy. Stretching routine 1. Hot shower to loosen neck 2. Place neck in following positions and hold your head in that position with your hand. Relax your neck and slowly try to increase the stretch over days-weeks. Flex head forward x 30 secs extend head x 30 secs turn right x 30 secs turn left x 30 secs bend right x 30 secs bend left x 30 secs repeat 3 times. You may repeat this routine daily. Good luck!

Maybe its worth...: ...asking why you feel the need to take analgesics? You're of course also right in raising concern about the effects of alcohol in potentiating liver disease.

Check with your Doc: Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be harmful for your liver and Ibuprofen can increase your risk of bleeding. There are other safer options for pain control for your situation but those are prescription medications.

Is it ok to take Advil/Tylenol, or any pain reliever for migraines, while on the pill? I am on COC called Micropil.

Yes: Hi Sara, Both Advil and Tylenol are safe to take while on a COC. If you take Advil, make sure you take it with food and a full glass of water to avoid stomach upset. Hope this helps!

OK: OK for now, but I wouldn't take any more medicine for cramps for at least six hours. Try a hot water bottle or warm bath.

Advil Cold and Sinus: Advil Cold and Sinus contains pseudoephedrine which decreases breast milk supply. Avoid Advil Cold and Sinus while breastfeeding. Also avoid Tylenol #3 as it contains codeine which passes into breast milk. Okay to take plain tylenol or advil for pain. More about cold and allergy remedies while breastfeeding: http://kellymom. I want to cleanse from the pain killers (tylenol, advil, (ibuprofen) & aleve) I've been taking for cronic headaches. How long before its all out of my system?

I want to cleanse from the pain killers (tylenol, advil, (ibuprofen) & aleve) I've been taking for cronic headaches. How long before its all out of my system?

Chronic NSAID's+Tyl: These medications won't be detectible in your system within a few days after last use. Multiple problems are associated with long term use of these medications & some can persist even after complete cessation. Chances are you have not exhausted your body's reserve in handling these medications. Don't be surprised if your gerd (profile) & headaches improve after you stop these.
