I had my first routine colonoscopy at 54 years old, and I have had intense itching of the anus since the colonoscopy. Can you tell me the cause?

Inflammation: It would help to know how long this has been going on, but I can give you some generalities. The scope itself can cause irritation or very minor injury; the lubricant may be something your skin is sensitive to; you may have some hemorrhoids that the scope caused to "act up." Generally, doctors schedule a follow up to discuss the results. I recommend you bring this up at that time. ...Read more

Can colonoscopy aggrivate internal hemerhoids? I had no pain or external before procedure. I had pain 6 weeks in anus after, I have had piles 4 3 months

Yes, but......: The bowel prep used prior to colonoscopy can cause hemorroidal flare up, but pain for 6 weeks may indicate that you have an anal tear (fissure). Also if the piles have not gone down for 3 months, you may have thrombosed ext. Hemorrhoids. You should be evaluated by a surgeon. ...Read more

Help everyone I am so worried I have cancer of the anus. Is colonoscopy the only way to tell for sure?

Other options: If you are only worried about anal cancer, this can probably be evaluated with just a digital rectal exam from a qualified specialist. Its been 4 days since my colonoscopy why does my anus still hurts.I can't sit or walk its so painful, I am constantly on heating pad its only help ?

Rectal pain: There are a couple of possibilities. One could be irritation of your hemorrhoids and/or an anal fissure from the prep or scope itself. Warm tub soaks and over the counter anal cream with 1% Hydrocortisone up inside twice a day for 7 days should help. If that doesn't suffice or if it gets worse, see your doctor. ...Read more

My husband has constantly itchy, burning anus . Not a lot of spicy foods. He is 61 years old and has never has colonoscopy. What could be the cause?

Depens: Some times perianal itching has an underlying cause such as hemorrhoids, fissure, fistulars, certain skin conditions. Many times there is no obvious cause. Itching in and of itself is not an indication for a colonoscopy but being over 50 is. ...Read more

Neg colonoscopy 9 mon ago. Diagnosed ibs. Recent bleeding from anus and positive fobt. Im 25 what now?

See CR Surgeon: Anal bleeding in a young person with a normal colonoscopy will most likely be from either internal hemorrhoids or an anal fissure. You would most likely have pain with bowel movements with the latter. Try taking a fiber supplement for a couple weeks. If you still bleed, see a colorectal surgeon. ...Read more
