On the forth day of taking alprazolam, it had no longer cure my insomnia problem. Why?

On the forth day of taking alprazolam, it had no longer cure my insomnia problem. Why?

Not for insomnia: Alprazolam is a sedative, but is not really intended for insomnia. Insomnia can happen for many reasons, including depression, drug/alcohol use, sleep apnea, restless legs, etc. If you have have not had a full evaluation of your sleep problem, I hope you will seek it out. You can start with your family doctor, but may also need to see a sleep medicine physician and/or psychiatrist.

I have been taking Xanax (alprazolam) 0.5mg at bedtime only for 10 years. Could this cause insomnia? How can I stop taking this?

I have been taking Xanax (alprazolam) 0.5mg at bedtime only for 10 years. Could this cause insomnia? How can I stop taking this?

Dependence: It's possible that you have developed tolerence to xanax (alprazolam) 0.5 mg because you have been taking it for so long. You can reduce the dose to three quarters of the tab for one week, then half a tab for one week and stop and see what happens. Ofcourse, it's always better to consult with the doctor who is prescribing your medication.

What are the side effects of taking long term alprazolam? Can I get some tips to quit taking pills and not to suffer insomnia?

Tolerance/withdrawal: Alprazolam (brand name xanax (alprazolam)) is a short-acting, non-sedating tranquilizer that is quite habit-forming. Depending on dosage & duration of use, it may need to be decreased very gradually over weeks or even longer. Sometimes xanax (alprazolam) is replaced with a similar drug that is easier to stop. This is best discussed with the prescribing doctor, who may also offer other remedies for the insomnia.

What to do if I have already taken 6 Ambien and 12 or more Xanax (alprazolam) and I'm still awake so I'm going to go take more. What can I do to help with my insomnia?

Please don't: Overdose yourself. If you are having this type of problem, encourage you to see a sleep specialist. A polysomnogram may be recommended as well.

Stop: Your sedatives the tolerance and rebound withdrawal/ insomnia hhave made them less than useless and a cause of the problem. However, your obvious tolerance necessitates a weaning process by an provider experienced in this.

Can taking. 5 mg of Xanax (alprazolam) a day for 2 weeks and suddenly stopping cause mild withdrawl symptoms like insomnia and anxiety?

Or worse! Talk to Dr!: The withdrawal symptoms from xanax (alprazolam) can be life-threatening, so perhaps you are fortunate. It is never a good idea to stop psychotropic meds without mediucal guidance and doctors will almost never stop these drugs abruptly. If things get worse, get to a urgent care or an er quickly. If they don't - make an appointment w/ the prescribing dr to quit carefully. Best wishes.

.5mg Xanax (alprazolam) 2 times a day 5 yrs tapered to 0.25 in 7 months is this taper too slow insomnia and mild anxiety. I take 1mg of noctamid for insomnia?

.5mg Xanax (alprazolam) 2 times a day 5 yrs tapered to 0.25 in 7 months is this taper too slow insomnia and mild anxiety. I take 1mg of noctamid for insomnia?

It depends.: A slow taper of xanax (alprazolam) is always best. If it is tapered too quickly, you could have rebound anxiety. A taper from 0.5mg twice a day could maybe be faster than 7 months but it could be just the right pace for your particular needs.

Find cause: You may be getting into a drug dependency that is unwise. Insomnia needs further assessment. Sleep issues can be associated with many medical, psychological, environmental issues as well as sleep hygiene. Please review your situation with prescribing doctor and consider exam with pcp for additional guidance. Hope this helps.

I have insomnia, take 30mg termazapan but forgot it, I'm on vacation- can I take 0.5 mgs of Xanax (alprazolam) to help me sleep?

I have insomnia, take 30mg termazapan but forgot it, I'm on vacation- can I take 0.5 mgs of Xanax (alprazolam) to help me sleep?

Old enuf to know: Probably you will be okay and - if it works, you might consider asking your provider to help you choose the best drug and lowest dose for you. People shouldn't share Rxs - you know that, right? Also, think about memory aids - we're getting older and need to plan ahead. If the vacation is good (active and relaxing) - you might not even need a pill to sleep - give it a try. Take care!

I'm taking 2 mg alprazolam bars now. Is clonazapam stronger than Xanax? I've had insomnia for about 30 yrs & I hear pros & cons over these 2 medicatio

Depends on situation: Xanax (alprazolam) is short acting about 2-3 hours with onset in about 1/2 hour. Clonazapam or Klonopin short acting about 12 hours onset in about 2 hours. The effect also depends on the dosage, Both are benzodiazepines and dependency possible with both (greater with Xanax (alprazolam)) Neither is considered traditional sleeping medication. YOu want to discuss all pros and cons of various meds for you with your doctor

I have very bad insomnia and don't get good sleep at all really and I also have anxiety since I'm a drinker, how can I get prescribed Xanax (alprazolam)?

Pursue other options: Insomnia can be very disabling largely due to daytime sleepiness, irritability, depression, anxiety, difficulty focusing, etc. It is likely making your anxiety worse. Xanax (alprazolam) is VERY addicting and can be lethal mixed with alcohol. Educate yourself about good sleeping habits, pursue relaxation techniques, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, see sleep foundation. Org. Consider seeing a sleep specialist.

Dr gave me Xanax (alprazolam) XR 3mg @night for gad/insomnia, and I honestly barely feel it. Never abused drugs, so I'm concerned why I don't feel such a high dose?

Dr gave me Xanax (alprazolam) XR 3mg @night for gad/insomnia, and I honestly barely feel it. Never abused drugs, so I'm concerned why I don't feel such a high dose?

This has generally: Been my experience with this medication. It is slow release and long acting and not at all suitable for insomnia. The few people I have on it are given it in the morning and are given a prn dose for daytime panic. There are better options for generalized anxiety, including cognitive therapy, exercise, acupuncture, meditation, tai chi, yoga, massage, naturopathic treatments, and other benzo's.

When your detoxing from Xanax (alprazolam) is there something you can take to help symptoms of panic attack and insomnia?

Xanax (alprazolam): Xanax (alprazolam) must be gradually tapered, so that withdrawal symptoms can be avoided. There are other benzodiazepines which could be used also, but xanax (alprazolam) is a little different from them. The other issue that can arise is recurrence of the original anxiety problems for which xanax (alprazolam) was prescribed. Please work with your doctor to determine what's what with you, and see what's needed.
