I'm in physical therapy after surgery monteggia fracture, but still can't twist my armfor pronation/supination. Possibly my tendon/ligament torn?
Follow-up required: There are multiple reasons why you lack pronation/supination after a monteggia injury. Among these are- incomplete reduction of the radial head dislocation, synostosis (abnormal bony union) between the radius and ulna, injury to the posterior interosseus nerve or other nerve. A concomitant tendon injury is less likely. You need to follow-up with your surgeon to assess the possible causes. ...Read more

Ankle sprain 8 months ago. Till now, mild chronic ptt pain at inner ankle. Seen 3 orthopaedists, custom insoles, physio, nothing works. Who can help?
Need more work up: At this point i would see a rheumatologist. The orthopedic work up is failing to find a source for the chronic pain. Gout would be higher up on the list and may be missed by the typical mechanical / structural examination initially done by orthopedics. Gout can present after mild trauma. There may be other types of chronic inflammation. I would see a specialist now. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

What should I do about pain in my neck after I have broken it in 2 places? I've got a neck brace on & it's really hard to deal with.
See below: Sharp neck pain usually comes from a degenerative joint or disc in the neck. Sometimes it's from a muscle strain or sprain. Early treatment options include a short course of nsaids (advil, aleve), gentle massage, moist heat, and focusing on posture. I would stay away from the brace for now. If pain lasts greater than 2 weeks see your physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What kind of neck brace can I use for my craniocervical instability when I also have TMJ problems?
Confirm diagnosis : CCI is a serious condition of hereditary or traumatic origin such as a serious auto collision. While I have no expertise with CCI, I have spent 45 years treating TMJ and can tell you that any kind of cervical brace will make your TMJ much worse. If your CCI was diagnosed by a chiropractor, have the condition confirmed by an Orthopaedist. If (s)he does not concur, seek treatment for your TMJ. ...Read more
What to do if I have a herniated or bulged cervical neck disc. How long does it to heal with a neck brace on?
Herniated disc: The pain from a herniated disc in the neck will improve with anti-inflammatory medication, muscle relaxers, neck exercises, and physical therapy. Cervical traction can reduce the radiating arm pain. Cortisone injections and nerve blocks can reduce neck and arm pain also. A neck brace reduces range of motion and often increases the pain. The pain should resolve within six weeks. See a neurosurgeon. ...Read more
I broke my neck (c7) on the 28th of jan. I'm scheduled to have my brace taken off mar 11. When can I start lifting @ the gym again?
Ask your surgeon: "one should not push her/his luck too much...." you've gotta be very careful before you are back to your routine lifting etc. When you can start your activity will depend on how severe the fracture is, how did you get the fracture, how heavy is the lifting-etc. Discuss with your surgeon when you can start lifting again. You are lucky you did not have quadriplegia- so dont push your luck too much. ...Read more

My husband fractured his C2 a couple of days ago. They did not opt for surgery or a halo and have him in a neck brace and sent him home the day after the incident. Is this a good sign?
Depends: This depends on several things: how experienced was the physician who made the diagnosis & treatmrpent plan, your husband's age & health status, the type of fracture ( classified type 1, 2 or3-which all have different prognosis's) & whether the fracture was non displaced or displaced and by how much it was angulated if at all. You should get an opinion from an orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
