Doctor insights on:
Alpha Lipoic Acid Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Taking Milk Thistle and Alpha Lipoic Acid and started feeling unusual lethargy. I read they both lower blood sugar. Will this go away or shud I stop?
The blood: Lowering effects are very minimal and will not lead to hypoglycemia in an otherwise normal individual. However, they won't help any known medical problem and are a waste of money. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or internet scams.
Stopped Milk Thistle + Alpha Lipoic Acid due to side effects, how long before lethargy from it wears off? My energy was great before and now crashing!
Milk thistle should: Help, and not make it worse, and it's effects should be cleared within a day. See doctor if energy level is crashing. This is not normal, when you had great energy before.
Being overweight, apple shaped, with high TG and low HDL, think I have metabolic syndrome, does taking alpha lipoic acid help, other benefits if I take it?
Give me your best advice for a patient struggeling with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Also would coq10 or alpha lipoic acid help. Thank u?
Seek the causes: Pots is a collection of symptoms but always has underlying causes that should be discovered ; addressed including adrenal fatigue, thyroid imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, food allergies, scar tissue inducing autonomic dysfunction, chronic infections, heavy metal toxicity etc. Coq10 ; lipoic acid may help some but consider homeopathy, acupuncture etc. Consult a holistic md: http://bit. Ly/19pettq.
Unlikely: Possible excess heavy metal accumulation in the body is hard to study, and there a disinformation industry using phony lab tests. Be careful. Alpha-lipoic acid is being promoted for all kinds of things including heavy metal removal; it failed a clinical trial for mercury miserably in 2003 (j tox). The field is important & cries out for better work.
Absolutely`: Very good but please remember that vitamins all work together in a team relationship so just taking one on its own may unbalance the team.
I am currently taking 50mg of Levothyroxine daily. Also take 150mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid. Any interactions?
Almost certainly: Alpha lipoic acid is always in our bodies as we synthesize it. It's very safe without serious side effects. Like most supps. Research hasn't been done on pregnant ; lactating women so its safety for such people "has not been established" but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't be safe; there's no evidence to suggest it would be hazardous. CoQ 10 ALA: Yes. Thesexare safe together.Get a more detailed answer ›
Alpha-lipoic acid: There's good research evidence for using alpha-lipoic acid in peripheral neuropathy http://tinyurl. Com/l4bvz9z, as an antioxidant, and in migraines http://tinyurl. Com/jvo6x9n -- some other uses also. Hyaluronic acid may help in osteoarthritis and aging skin, but evidence is not as robust as with alpha-lipoic acid in above uses. They are safe, but please inform your doctor you're taking them.See 1 more doctor answer
Listen to your body: Acetyl l carnitine and Alpha lipoic acid block to varying degrees cadmium toxicity. Free cadmium is liberated by stress and can induce high cholesterol and hypertension. In animal studies the two have anti-aging effects in rodents. They are safe to try but are probably no sufficient to reverse all the effects of free cadmium.
Best not: According to the natural medicines comprehensive database on complementary and alternative medicines, insufficient data are available on use in pregnancy, thus use should be avoided.

I am experiencing a "boring" feeling in my gastric and shortness of breath. Could it be the alpha lipoic acid I am taking everyday?
Unlikley but...: Alpha lipoic acid is a natural substance in every cell of your body ; is not known to cause the symptoms you mention. However, many supplements have fillers/binders/preservatives so it is possible you are reacting to some other ingredient in the pill. Try stopping it. If symptoms improve try again to be sure it's related. If so, you can try a different brand as lipoic acid itself won't cause this.
No, but: No it can't, but why are you taking the supplement?
S it fine to take glutathione 500mg, milk thistle extract 100mg, alpha lipoic acid 50mg, combined with d alpha tocopheryl acetate 400 iu?
Analysis: Why do you take all these items? . Where did you find such advice? Glutathione is a wonderful anti-oxidant, but does NOT cross into the brain, so of questionable value in bloodstream. Milk thistle extract has questionable benefit in most cases. Alpha lipoic useful in peripheral and central nerve disorders. You are far better off using mixed tocopherols, especially with gamma. About 600 mg/day: You'll find most people stating that 600mg./day is the maximum daily dose. It's produced within our own bodies and is found in foods as a naturally occurring supplement and antioxidant.
No evidence: Alpha lipoic has not been subjected to any proper clinical testing for this condition. It almost certainly causes no harm but there is no evidence for a positive effect.
Yes: Yes, alpha lipoic acid can lower blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity and also prevent and reverse diabetic neuropathy. I advise 300-600 mg twice a day. See https://draxe.
