Alpha Fetoprotein Test Normal Range
Healthy young female. Two blood tests(normal check-up). Liver test showed elevated total protein and globulin. Other parameters absolutely normal. Why?
Serum free light chain test shows normal kappa (8.7mg/dl), low lambda (3.80), high kap/lam ratio (2.31). Serum $ urine electrophoresis show no monoclonal protein, nor does serum immunofixation. Likely MGUS, myeloma, or admyloidosis? CBC/met panel ok.
False positive rate: There is 30% or so false positive rate of kappa/lambda ratio in people without MGUS, myeloma or other disorders. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. No: At your age, kidney function is usually starting to drop of. And/or you may simply be physically fit and decently muscled. When I was lifting weights daily, I ran 1.7-1.8. I see you have hepatitis C and cirrhosis. See if you can get into one of these new studies with the meds that usually cure it. Best wishes. ...Read more
What are these tests done for?
Hb, tc, ast, alt, bilurubin total, direct. Creatinine, quantitative CRP assay and rbs.
Slightly elevated beta fraction from serum protein electrophoresis. Beta 1.07 (high) (0.52-0.98) increased beta fraction, no monoclonal or polyclonal gammopathy seen. Immunofixation normal.
Question about lab results from hematologist.
Free kappa light chains serum 19.97 (range is 3.30-19.40mg/l)
Normal lambda and ratio.
What for?: What are you being tested for? All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, Serum free light chain assay and kappa/lambda ratio are unreliable tests. Better would be have serum and urine protein electrophoresis. ...Read more

If reference range is < 0.86 ng/mg for F2 Isospostane/Creatinine ratio urine test, what is normal reference range for just F2 Isoprostane urine test ?
Oxidative stress: The F2-isoprostane/Cr ratio is the “gold standard” for measuring oxidative stress in people who have lifestyle risks due to poor diet or smoking, a family Hx of cardiovascular disease, or hyperlipidemia. ^ levels are seen in conditions with an incr risk of atherosclerosis and certain cancers. Urine values require creatinine in the analysis, range from 0.14 - 0.53 ng/mg w/ LC/MS, 1.02-1.30 w/ GC/MS ...Read more
Blood tests shows high gamma globulin & high igg. Ifx shows no monoclonal protein & free light chains are within normal range. What does this mean?
It might be a benign: Many benign processed can cause hypergammaglobulinemia, which are benign elevations without a para -protein or m-spike on serum protein electrophoresis(spe)> it all depends on how high is the gammaglobulin level and making sure the liver functions are ok and there is no chronic inflammation(like rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis etc) going on inside the body. ...Read more
Testing for AL amyloid. SPEP shows no M-spike but mildly elevated total protein & A/G ratio (2.7) due to high albumin. Globulins well within normal range. Worrisome? Serum/urine IFE &marrow biopsy ok, but elevated free K/L ratio due to low lambda.
My HCG test came back as 1300 (above high normal) but then say Beta HCG Quantitative Interpretation Negatived considered <5.3 mlUnits/ML. Meaning?

CBC test results: Elevated MCHC, elevated MCH, bottom of range for Haematocrit, everything else within normal ranges. What do these results mean?
Nothing: Your physician may want to repeat them. I trust you do not have spherocytosis or if you do, that you've been worked up. At most, a reticulocye count may be in order. Sometimes the machines can be a bit mis-calibrated. High MCHC is quite uncommon and if you feel well I wouldn't be troubled. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. ...Read more
