My amylase serum is 27 normal is 28 to 100. Doctor ordered because I had some stomach and side pain an now she is on vacation, all other test normal?

Not pancreatitis: a normal or low amylase would make it unlikely that you have pancreatitis which is a cause of upper abdominal pain. It may be a stomach or duodenal ulcer causing your pain. Consider an anti-acid such as nexium (to be taken daily on an empty stomach), and follow up with your doctor. ...Read more

I went to the ER for abdominal pains on the left side and back. It felt like gas. I have gallstones and my amylase ia elevated by 19 points. The doctor says don't worry. Can it be a gb attack?

Pancreatitis: It sounds like you have gallstones that led to a bout of pancreatitis (we cleverly call this: gallstone pancreatitis). Both gallstones themselves and pancreatitis can give you abdominal pain; pancreatitis more commonly causes back pain. The treatment is gallbladder removal--so it doesn't happen again. ...Read more

My amylase enzyme was only 28 IU/l what could be making that so low?

Not of any concern: You can ignore this as it does not mean anything medically important. We only worry if the Amylase is high which would reflect damage to the pancreas. What are amylase my son is 9yrs nold and his amylase was 120 what does this mean

What are amylase my son is 9yrs nold and his amylase was 120 what does this mean

Amylase : Amylase is a enzyme that is found in the body, it's main function is to aid in digestion. It is often ordered if a problem (mainly inflammation ) is suspected in the pancreas, if your son had abdominal pain, nausea, and/or vomiting then this test was likely ordered with many other tests including an abdominal ultrasound. I can not tell you what the 120 signifies, mainly due to the fact that each lab has it's own reference range for every test done. However i can say this falls in the normal range for the lab I use here in my office. The ordering doctor will be able to give you the exact reason why the test was ordered, the reference range of the amylase, and what your son's level means. Just based on your post and no other info. Given it sounds like your son is probably just fine, and no major problems were detected. ...Read more
