Is alopecia areata characterized by bald patches or general thinning of eyebrows or scalp could also be a characteristic?
Hair eyebrows and body hair diffuse thinning but no baldness, for over 6 months. Is this most likely chronic TE as opposed to alopecia as no baldness?
How to tell if it's alopecia or TE? Diffuse thinning of scalp eyebrows and pubic hair on and off 12 months since early MC, NO patches. Thank you
I have alopecia, which is spreading all over my face, scalp and eyebrows. Tried a multitude of treatments, nothing working, is there a new OMP therap?
Embrace it: Hi Rishi -- If this is alopecia areata, no Rx works. The old "oral mini-pulse" glucocorticoid treatments that were tried a while back were a disappointment, as you know. Nobody notices that the Mona Lisa lacks eyebrows, and they won't care about yours. I have two friends with this -- athletic men, and they both love it -- clean, tidy, macho. Best choice -- get really fit and it'll be a plus. ...Read more

Get evaluated: I'm betting you've got alopecia areata. I've got a doctor friend who has it and loves being totally smooth. The treatments (glucocorticoids, cyclosporine) are worse than the disease, by far. Hit the fitness circuit, remember that 95% of your looks is how fit you are and this is completely under your control, and remember how many men who are sex-symbols shave everything. Best wishes. ...Read more

Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium. ...Read more

I have alopecia areata, when I first found out I had a patch on my head it was small. But now it's huge! Half of my head. What do I do?
See a dermatologist: There is no cure for alopecia areata. Hair often re-grows on its own. Treatment can help the hair re-grow more quickly. A dermatologist may give you corticosteroids, minoxidil, anthralin, diphencyprone (dpcp), and other treatments. Some treatments are combined, but if you would the hair to grow back faster I recommend seeing a dermatologist. ...Read more
