Aloe Vera Juice Before Or After Meals
Aloe gel, made from the central part of the aloe leaf, is a common household remedy for minor cuts and burns, as well as sunburns. It can be found in many commercial skin lotions and cosmetics. Aloe contains active compounds that may decrease pain and inflammation and stimulate skin growth and repair. For this reason, aloe vera gel has gained tremendous popularity for relief of burns, with individual success in helping minor burns. In one study, burn sites treated with aloe healed completely in less than 16 days compared to 19 days for sites treated with silver sulfadiazine. In a review of the scientific literature, researchers found that patients who were treated with aloe vera healed an average of almost 9 days sooner than those who weren't treated with the medicinal plant. However, other studies show mixed results, including at least one study that found aloe actually delayed healing. Aloe is best used for minor burns and skin irritations, and should never be applied ...Read more

Sorry, but no...: Diverticulitis is essentially a local infection where bacteria get trapped and fester inside a pocket (the diverticulum) of the gut (diverticuli can occur in any portion of the GI tract, but diverticulitis is most often described in the colon). This can lead to abscess, perforation, fistula formation, bleeding. Treatment is antibiotics (surgery if recurrent). Aloe vera is pretty useless here. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably but...: As far as I can tell no one knows for sure. There was one study showing a reduction of T3 and T4 in mice given aloe, but that doesn't mean it would do the same for people. Some recommend it for hyperthyroidism and thyroiditis because it helps balance immune function but I don't know of studies on this. I consider it benign and it does have proven benefits. Likely safe but monitor thyroid function. ...Read more

Probably OK..: Most of the aloe vera plant is edible--the leaves are juicy/succulent. The leaves are thick and contain quite a bit of juice (clear gel) which is often used in making juice or to make skin lotion etc.. It has been used for centuries both internally and external and has not been found to have any significant toxicity. So, at 9 month, i think should be safe. Congrats on the pregnancy. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
safety not known: Hardly any drugs or herbs have been studied for safety in pregnancy. There is no evidence aloe juice is dangerous during pregnancy; many women report using it regularly during pregnancy without problems. Some manufacturers of aloe juice claim it's safe during pregnancy. However, most authorities say to avoid it as its safety in pregnancy has not been established. I'd avoid all herbs 1st trimester. ...Read more
Fasting: for one day is not going to hurt you. Some recent thinking is that by "stressing" your body slightly by fasting every few days, you might even live longer. Is it better to drink tea/coffee right after a meal or couple of hours later? Can drinking tea/coffee immediately after food restrict iron absorption?
Ideally you should..: wait 2 hrs before ingesting food. This is because food may reduce the bioavailability (availability of the antibiotic in the body) and therefore make it less effective. If around 2 hrs have passed it's okay to have food. If you ate a little sooner than 2 hrs, don't worry - it probably won't make a HUGE difference (so don't take an extra pill!). Hope you get well soon! ...Read more
