Is there a test that would confirm my possible allergy to NSAIDs?

Unfortunately no: History of true allergic reaction is the most reliable, or a challenge with the drug in a controlled setting, if you really need to take an NSAID and no way for an alternative, see an allergist, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, good luck ...Read more

Depends: Since you did not mention nasal or sinus polyps, I presume that you do not have Aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease in which patients would react to all NSAIDs except Celebrex (celecoxib). There has been no study on whether topical NSAIDs would trigger systemic symptoms and thus the answer is unknown. It appears to me that you need a good neurologic and orthopedic evaluation. ...Read more

Allergy to NSAIDS and Tylenol (acetaminophen) making stomach upset. Alternative pain relievers needed. Natural or pill form. ?

Allergy to NSAIDS and Tylenol (acetaminophen) making stomach upset. Alternative pain relievers needed. Natural or pill form. ?

See allergists: You will need to tell us more about what types of reactions you have to NSAIDs. If the problem is asthma, then a selective Cox-2 inhibitor type of NSAID can usually be tolerated. If it is swelling , then it is more likely specific to a single NSAIDS than all of them. If it is stomach upset, then one can usually counter this with a proton-pump inhibitor. Which symptoms do you have? ...Read more

What medications can you NOT take with an nsaid allergy?

What medications can you NOT take with an nsaid allergy?

See Allergist: NSAID examples include aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve (naproxen). A true NSAID allergy is actually very rare and your reaction history should be discussed with Allergist to confirm your suspicions. Pseudoallergic reaction can also occur with NSAIDs and are seen in people with aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease or chronic hives. Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead until proper evaluation by Allergist ...Read more
