What can you do for an allergic reaction hydrocodone homatropine syrup?

Stop the medication: The first thing to do is immediately stop the medication causing the allergic reaction. You can also take an over-the-counter antihistamine (benadryl, zyrtec, (cetirizine) claritin) to help the symptoms. If i'm allergic to sulfa will i be allergic to codeine?

If i'm allergic to sulfa will i be allergic to codeine?

Probably not.: Sulfa allergy doesn't increase likelihood of allergy to other meds. Most reactions to Codeine not allergic but side-effects of codeine/narcotics (gi upset, constipiation, sedation, itching, hives). Codeine directly causes histamine release without the participation of allergic antibodies. Also, sulfa allergy is only to sulfa antibiotics, not other types of sulfas, e.G diurectics, diabetes meds. ...Read more

Can you outgrow your codeine allergy?

Can you outgrow your codeine allergy?

In sensitive individuals Codeine causes mast cells to release histamine causing flushing, itching, hives, swelling of skin/lips, etc. The sensitivity persists but can pretreat or use fentanyl (less mast cell activation). ...Read more

Allergic to codine & codone. Is there another cough syrup similar to take?

No: For severe cough, we may prescribe Robitussin (guaifenesin) w/ codeine. It will help w/ cough suppression, illness pain, and insomnia. For people who do not tolerate codeine, vicotussin can be used; but that has hydro-codone, which you say you're sensitive to. That pretty much rules out the narcotics for cough suppression. You could use tessalon for great cough control, but without the sedation nor pain control. ...Read more

I'm allergic to Morphine, so will I be allergic to Oxymorphone medications also?

I'm allergic to Morphine, so will I be allergic to Oxymorphone medications also?

Opiate allergies?: It depends. Alot of folks claim to be allergic to various medications, when in fact, they have side effects. Since we do not know what your reaction was to Morphine, it's kinda hard to predict what you might experience with other drugs. My advice is to try and avoid taking Opiates on a regular basis, as you may become dependent and then have withdrawal symptoms when you don't take the Opiates. ...Read more

How can I avoid another allergic reaction to an antibiotic medicine if allergic to penicillin?

True allergies to morphine, vicodin, nsaids (hives, flushing, rashes.) is dilaudid a safe choice?

Unlikely: If you have problem with Opiates (more likely intolerances than allergies), you are more likely to have problem with Dilaudid as well. I have heavy allergic to seafood. Is it possible to take antihistamine drug as profilaxis to minimize allergic reaction?

I have heavy allergic to seafood. Is it possible to take antihistamine drug as profilaxis to minimize allergic reaction?

Not so quick: As a general rule I would not recommend prophylactic antihistamines . There are a few exceptions for which I might prophylactically treat. The issue is that the antihistamine might prevent the early phase reaction but might permit the patient to continue ingestion the offending food and end up with a more sever reaction. Must still carry your Epi-Pen or Auvi-Q!! ...Read more

Can I take penicillin if I'm allergic to benadryl (diphenhydramine)?

Yes, assuming . . .: The antihistamine Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is not related to antibiotics, penicillin. So if you're allergic to diphenhydramine, you should still be able to take penicillin, assuming that you're not allergic to penicillin, too. Out of curiosity, what were your allergy symptoms? Perhaps you're allergic to filler & dye in pill, not to diphenhydramine. ...Read more
