Allergy : We would not try other nsaid's if you are allergic to the two. I would recommend tylenol as the next option. Make sure what you are calling an allergy actually is an allergy. Several: I like to start with hypertonic nasal saline nose sprays to help reduce congestion without medications. Pseudoephedrine ok short time. OTC nasacort also good if allergies the cause. Probably: There is cross reactivity between aspirin and NSAIDs as ibuprofen and the like, but whether you're truly allergic to this class of medicines is yet to be sure of, visit an allergist, in the interim avoid NSAIDS and aspirin, use acetaminophen for pain and fever till sorted out ...Read more

Avoid Aspirin etc: Hives indicate a true allergy. You do not have to have wheezing, coughing --signs of an asthma reaction- to call this a serious allergy. 1% of the population is allergic to Aspirin and other anti inflammatories. Sometimes, though not usually in those with hives, allergists desensitize patients so they can take these medicines but this is complex look carefully at labels all medications always! ...Read more

See PCP re meds ?: Advil and Ibuprofen are the same thing so if you have a true allergy to the product then you cannot take an NSAID till cleared by an allergist. Aleve and Naproxen are the same product, they are also nsaids while Aspirin belongs to a different family of drugs and can also be used if deemed appropriate by your pcp. See your pcp to clarify as to what meds you can and cannot take. ...Read more

Yes: If you allergic to Aspirin it is unlikely that you will be allergic to products like Ibuprofen or Naproxen (they're different compounds). However, if you are taking any product that contains Aspirin you run the risk of having an allergic reaction to the Aspirin component. ...Read more
