Allergic & pregnant: The less medication used in pregnancy, the better, most people agree. However, late in pregnancy, category B antihistamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Zyrtec are generally safe for mother and baby. Nasalcrom spray is especially safe, as long as one is not allergic to it, which is RARE, but it is not very strong. Confirm: I would suggest a saline rinse for nose and eyes. It should be safe, but please check with your local pharmacy and OB. They have up to date computerized information. Using a HEPA filter at home and avoiding triggers will also help. ...Read more

Decongestant: Allergies can cause eustachian tubes to clog up. If you are otherwise healthy, pop 2 OTC pseudoephedrine 30 mg tablets. Plus get OTC decongestant nose spray (like Afrin (oxymetazoline) 12 hr) and squirt in same sode nostril where ear is clogged, but not for >5 days. Begin topical steroid like fluticasone or triamcinolone daily for longer term control, stop if nosebleeds. Consider allergist, find cause. ...Read more
