How can I alleviate allergy symptoms (watery eyes, runny nose, clogged ears, sneezing)?

How can I alleviate allergy symptoms (watery eyes, runny nose, clogged ears, sneezing)?

Many ways: The most common answer you will get from docs is "allergy meds". In addition, avoidance of the allergens is a powerful solution, but often difficult to achieve. Rinsing away those allergens from your nose can be hugely successful. Consider using a daily nasal rinse of saline. Like rinsing dust off your car, daily nasal saline rinses wash away allergens, virus, bacteria. Nice effect. Try it. ...Read more

Feels like allergies, but allergy testing is negative. Itchy water eyes, itchy clogged ears, post nasal drip, stuffy nose, sinus infections, sneezing?

Can still be allergy: Allergy testing only rules out what is being tested for. I would look at what helps the symptoms and to see what seems to trigger the symptoms. ...Read more

Hi, I'm 34 weeks pregnant and have severe allergy symptoms sneezing, itchy ears and throat, runny nose and eyes, which medicine is good for me?

Allergic & pregnant: The less medication used in pregnancy, the better, most people agree. However, late in pregnancy, category B antihistamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Zyrtec are generally safe for mother and baby. Nasalcrom spray is especially safe, as long as one is not allergic to it, which is RARE, but it is not very strong. Nasal steroid sprays Nasacort/Flonase are usually fine, because not much is used--all these OTC ...Read more

Can I take zyrtec (cetirizine) while pregnant? If not, what can I take to ease my allergies (sneezing, itchy eyes and ears, runny nose)?

Confirm: I would suggest a saline rinse for nose and eyes. It should be safe, but please check with your local pharmacy and OB. They have up to date computerized information.
Using a HEPA filter at home and avoiding triggers will also help. ...Read more

Decongestant: Allergies can cause eustachian tubes to clog up. If you are otherwise healthy, pop 2 OTC pseudoephedrine 30 mg tablets. Plus get OTC decongestant nose spray (like Afrin (oxymetazoline) 12 hr) and squirt in same sode nostril where ear is clogged, but not for >5 days. Begin topical steroid like fluticasone or triamcinolone daily for longer term control, stop if nosebleeds. Consider allergist, find cause. ...Read more

Chronic sinusitis: The symptoms above are consistent with chronic irritation of the nose and throat. This can be caused by chronic sinus infections which also connect to the ear and cause dizziness. A Cat scan of sinuses can help. A more unlikely but possible cause is reflux disease. (GERD) While not typical, gastric fluid coming up in the throat during sleep can cause the symptoms as well. An ENT surgeon can help. ...Read more

Intermittent head pressure esp behind eyes, clogged ears, tight jaw. CBC, echo, EKG OK. Lowering head worsens pressure. Allergies? Musculoskeletal?

Pressure in head: In a young lady may be due to deep sinus problems or Idopathic intracranial hypertension especially if there is a positional component. I would see a neurologist. Check Iron level, Vit A level Thyroid function if there is evidence of raised intracranial pressure on fundoscopic (eye) exam. Also check a CT of the head. I wish you best of health. ...Read more

Pulsing head + dizzy/lightheaded when lie down. Ears clogged, pressure in eyes/face, nasal voice often. Allergies. Cervical issues. What specialist?

Doctor for allergies: Allergists treat the allergies and the ear- blocking and headaches that come with them. They don't do neck adjustments in the USA. I would start with an allergist and if they do not help you, consider seeing an otolaryngologist for structural causes of the nose and ears giving you these symptoms. For the neck, you may need a different doctor entirely, depends on what symptoms you have. ...Read more

I have chronic clogged ears, went to ENT nothing even got tested for allergies and nothing, and cat scan. Don't know what to do?

Blocked ears: Sometimes we can't find a cause for this problem; we have two aerosol nasal sprays that can be tried. The aerosols often get back through the nasal passages to the eustachian tube openings that connect to the throat better than aqueous sprays. They are called zetonna and qnasl. Some of my patients also find it helpful to take sudafed on the mornings they are blocked. Try a milk free diet too. ...Read more

Best wishes. ...Read more
