Up the treatment: I see in your medication list that you are taking Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) an h1 antihistamine, and were prescribed a steroid cream. You can try an over the counter h2 antihistamine Loratadine along with the above. Yes: Hives is a "swelling" type of reaction. With the release of histamine, fluids go out into the tissues and cause swelling. This is often present in the hands, feet and face, especially the lips. See below: Increased blood flow to theses "extremity areas" is likely the cause. As long as there is no pain, this is natural (to an extent) so to keep these areas from loosing blood flow (cold can do this) and thus decreasing oxygen to the tissues, where, if without, tissues metabolism slows and if it stops, tissues can die. Sounds like: An allergic response usually does not involved lymph node enlargement but one can see how this can happen from the immune stimulation related to high pollen exposure.
