Allergies (Definition)

Allergies occur when your immune system is triggered by envirionmental factors it should ignore--for example, pollen in the air, or dander on a cat or dog--and creates cells to fight against them. An allergic reaction typically causes itching, congestion, or drainage, and ...Read more

Is it normal for arms to swell and harden at the injection site after allergy shots?

Is it normal for arms to swell and harden at the injection site after allergy shots?

It's pretty common: it's an immune reaction. Personally, I kind of believe in the 19th century idea that a vaccine that makes more of a 'take' (the signs you mention) produces a better immune reaction.
Vaccines vary between the type (live is stronger) and between people on how much inflammation they produce. ...Read more

My son got his 15 month shots on the 31st. One of the injection sites still has a hard bump the size of a dime. Is this ok?

Yes!: It is probably a sterile abscess. After a "shot" I always "squish the area as I rub it and it spreads around the 0.5 cc of liquid inside the muscle. Obviously, this time it didn't work. The fluid will be absorbed into the surrounding muscle tissue soon enough. He got the injection less than a week ago. He just needs some tincture of time and tender loving care. ...Read more

I know some injection sites must not be washed or contacted with water till the next day.does it apply to hydroxi progesterone caproate(makena) shots?

I do not think so.: All injection sites including intramuscularly injected hydroxyprogesterone should be done on a surface that was previously cleaned for example with alcohol. Cleaning that same area at a later time by washing with water/ soap should not be a problem. ...Read more

Is it normal to have a large bump on the site of the allergy injection?

Is it normal to have a large bump on the site of the allergy injection?

Yes: Right after the shot there may be an itchy lump on the skin like a hive, anywhere from a pinpoint to a silver dollar size. This is usually normal, although some doctors adjust the dose if it's large. Also, as the dose gets higher, it is common to have a hard, non-tender swelling that develops over a few hours and lasts a few days. This is also normal. ...Read more

Why do allergy shot injections last for only about 10 years? Is there anything else that lasts longer?

Do allergy oral drops work? Do they work as well as allergy injections? Should i stop the drops and look into shots?

Do allergy oral drops work? Do they work as well as allergy injections? Should i stop the drops and look into shots?

In principle, yes: Allergy drops have been used as off-label allergy treatment for many years and shown to be effective in certain environmental allergies. Its limitation is that it is dose-related meaning doctors could not fit so many allergens into the drop. It also does not work in case of patients with multiple environmental sensitivities shown on allergy testing. In that case, allergy shots would work better. ...Read more

I had an injection (I believe it was an allergy shot) several years ago and I still have a hard nodule that hurts and itches, and has flare ups. ?

Unusual: Although allergy shots not uncommonly induce a delayed swelling at the site, it is unusual for the reaction to stay for >a week . I suspect your problem is from repeated scratching causing a nodule (prurigo nodularis) which often responds to cortisone injection directly into the lesion. ...Read more

How effective are allergy shots, immunotherapy injections or drops?

How effective are allergy shots, immunotherapy injections or drops?

Depends: The efficacy of allergy shots (immunotherapy) can be maximized by seeing a board certified allergist. Allergists receive extensive training in treating with allergy shots. In the right patient, they can be curative, and hopefully decrease or eliminate the need for allergy medications. Allergy drops have also been shown to be very effective, but are not yet fda approved. ...Read more

Tell your allergist and they can reduce the dose of the injections from the present dose but still make progress by increasing the dose slowly. ...Read more

Today I got 3 shots for my allergies is it possible that I can eat anything with soy or peanut or I have to wait? know the name of the injection

No: Your shots are likely for airborne allergens and not for foods. Even then, it will take months to reduce your allergic symptoms. Allergy shots or sublingual drops for food allergens remain experimental at this time and results thus far have been inconsistent. If you are allergic to peanut or soy, don't eat them unless OKd by your allergist. ...Read more

Local reactions: Reactions to allergy shots, even local reactions, can occur at anytime even after years of receiving them. Often it is due to technique or how a particular shot was given. Be sure to mention it next time you go for a shot. ...Read more

Had allergy with swollen lips & eyes 2 days ago. Took Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and a steroid shot. Today having rash on torso and extremities. Allergic to injection?

More info.: Large dose of steroid can cause acne. However the rash may also be just a part of the swollen lips and eyes process which returns when the level of steroid starts to fall off. I presume that you are on Benadryl (diphenhydramine). ...Read more

Why do I need to rotate injection sites when I inject enbrel (etanercept)? Why can't I inject the same place?

Why do I need to rotate injection sites when I inject enbrel (etanercept)? Why can't I inject the same place?

Better rotate: Use at least two injection sites. You don't need to rotate between four sites. Rotating between sites gives the individual sites a chance to recover from the injections. That creates less pain and a lesser chance of a site reaction. ...Read more

Keep telling nurse my body itches on increase allergy shots decreased dose doesnt make me itch she says shots only itch at site after decrease works?

Keep telling nurse my body itches on increase allergy shots decreased dose doesnt make me itch she says shots only itch at site after decrease works?

Incorrect: Generalized itching after an allergy shot points to something more serious to come especially when the dose is increased . I urge you to discuss this with your allergist before you get your next shot. Although one may not need to decrease the allergen dose from a local reaction, a generalized itch may signal the early stage of anaphylaxis. ...Read more

How can I avoid little bumps after juvederm injections? I seem to always develop little bumps at the juvederm injection sites. They do go away, but i'd like to avoid getting them in the first place. Is there anything i can do?

.

It : It is not possible to give you an answer without more information. The best thing to do is go back to your injector when you have the bumps and ask them what is going on and how to treat it.

Injection site bumps occur for a variety of reasons. The most common cause of injection site bumps is a small amount of swelling from the needle. This tends to resolve in 24 hours, and can be minimized with ice and light compression after your treatment. If the bumps are due to the filler being injected too superficially, a correction on administration will help as can light massage. Over doing the massage can lead to flattening of your results. ...Read more

I had an allergy shot two days ago. Had a site reaction larger than a half dollar-remains.Today woke up with hives on body and face. Related?

Possible: Allergy shots may be associated with a late-phase reaction which comes on several hours after (local reaction). But it is highly unusual to develop hives 2-3 days later. I suspect that something like a viral infection may be the cause for your hives. ...Read more

Allergy shot in abdomen 3 weeks ago the site is still really tender to the touch. Is that normal? I have not had any injuries. What should I do?

Not good: First , one should never get an allergy shot in the abdomen since the rate of absorption is unpredictable. I am not aware of any board-certified allergist giving allergy shots in this manner. What you should do is consulting a board-certified allergist and do not get any more shots from any allergist-wannabe in the meanwhile. Allergens are not like insulin . ...Read more

Can i wear makeup over radiesse injection sites right away? My skin is not very pretty, so i always wear at least a foundation. I understand the doctor will clean my skin before the injections. Will i be able to reapply my makeup before leaving the offic

Mineral makeup okay: We use color-matched colorescience sunforgettable mineral sunscreen powder on our patients after injections like botox, xeomin (incobotulinumtoxin a) and dermal fillers such as radiesse. It helps obscure redness at the injection site and balance pigment and provide sun protection. We get compliments from our patients on the look and feel of the product and have had no issues with irritation. ...Read more

No benefit except for specific B12 deficiency due to pernicious anemia, celiac disease, intestinal surgery, weird diet, certain meds, etc. Why injecting buttock when usually given in arm??
