Can I get an allergic reaction from ritalin (methylphenidate)? My friend gave me one and I am taking an act tomorrow. I am allergic to tree nuts, cats and dogs.
It's both illegal &: a bad idea for a person without ADHD to take stimulant medication for the 1st time on the day of a 4 1/2- hour ACT + Writing Test. A low dose may have no positive effect, yet increase blood pressure & pulse & cause anxiety/agitation. Short-acting Ritalin (methylphenidate) wears off in 3 ½ - 4 hours & may cause you to "crash" before you finish the exam. Don't risk your academic future. ...Read more

Im allergic to any kind of pollen when the trees are in blossom, pine trees, olive trees. What can I do besides wear a mask?
Allergic rhinitis: Staying inside the house during pollen season seems like the best answer. But that's not practical. Taking a shower will help remove pollen adhering to your skin. Antihistamines plus nasal steroids will help. ...Read more
Can allergies cause throat tightness and if so what treatments would you recommend. I had a blood test done and have a high reaction to trees?
See allergist: I think you need to see an allergist to find out the cause of your throat tightness and the appropriate treatment required. Certainly allergy can cause throat swelling (which can be life-threatening) but it is impossible to tell if that's your problem. It is however unlikely that your allergy to tree pollen is causing the throat swelling even if it does exist. ...Read more

Lots of choices: Allegra is an antihistamine, so you would want to choose some rx from other classes of medications. Nearly all of your other choices would be prescriptions. Nasal steroid sprays, nasal antihistamines, oral leukotriene inhibitors can all be helpful as prescribed by your physician or health professional. About the only other possibly helpful rx otc would be Nasalcrom that is a nasal spray. See md. ...Read more
I went to the doctor to see if I am allergic to almonds , he mentioned the 3 most common tree nut allergies & i can't remember what he said.
Not by test alone: The diagnosis of allergy must be made by the history and not by test result alone. Although people allergic to one nut is more at risk to be allergic to another one, this is more likely due to the person's propensity to become allergic and not due to cross-reactivity between the nuts. If you don't have problem after eating a nut, you are not allergic to it no matter what the test shows. ...Read more

Unable to do things, due to recurrent allergic reactions such as severe nausea, fatigue, increased heart beat, difficulty thinking, throat swell.....?
Vocal cord dysfunction vs. Idiopathic environmental intolerance: Could be worthwhile considering vocal cord dysfunction (paradoxical vocal fold movement) as a contributing factor. This condition is often acutely exacerbated by strong scents/odors. More common in females and tends to affect patients with a history of high anxiety. Might be worthwhile getting PFTs and having a laryngoscope performed. Idiopathic environmental intolerance is another consideration but this is a diagnosis of exclusion. There are a number of filters and personal wearable devices that can help the patient deal with exposures in her environment. ...Read more

Have there been any allergies (plants, trees, etc.) identified as occurring between early october and early november in the san francisco bay area?
No: Generally no. If you are receiving allergy shots, it is important to have the correct tree pollen that is responsible in the shot, but otherwise the basic principles are the same. Knowing which tree pollens are responsible for your allergies can help plan desensitization (allergy shots) and might help you predict which seasons will be difficult for you. ...Read more

Acacia does come from acaia trees, but even if you are allergic to the pollen of acacia trees it does not mean you'd react to acacia in the vitamin. BUT there are many multivits that are FAR better than Centrum Silver. For my detailed critique of Centrum see http://tinyurl.com/mzrkbx8

Is intermittent severe back/spinal pain lasting approximately 10 seconds at a time a normal symptom of peanut/tree nut allergies? This happens to me.
Can you tell me about an anaphylactic allergy to tree nuts when i was 12.. For the less common food allergies I have it obviously isn as well but nuts!?
Unclear question: Tree nut allergy usually does not remit. You may be allergic to some, but not all tree nuts. The most common food allergies are to nuts, peanut (a legume), shellfish (related to insects), fish, egg white, cow's milk, soy and wheat. Unless you have symptoms with foods other than tree nuts, you may be allergic only to them. If you suspect others, make a food diary and go to an allergist/immunologist. ...Read more

Yes you can:
Both Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Claritin can cause a drowsy sleepy feeling. So they should not be taken together at the same time or mixed with Alcohol. But there is no harm done if you take them about 12 hours apart by which time the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will be out of your system.
