They can then suck blood out of their "prey" and leave saliva proteins that cause itching and swelling. Other insect species, like bees, yellow jackets, wasps, hornets and fire ants actually inject venom into their prey and can not only cause localized pain and swelling, but severe, acute allergic reactions in ...Read more
Allergic reaction: If it is true allergic reaction, then avoidance of the allergen will curb the reaction hopefully. Using an anti-allergy preparation such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night might help. Hydrocortisone cream once to twice daily on the affected areas excluding eyes may be tried for no longer than 2 weeks at a time. If those fail, definitely see a doc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What could cause rash, blistering/swelling, and scabbing on ear.. With no history of burns, scrapes, insect bites, or contact with allergens?
? Impetigo: What you describe sounds suspicious for impetigo, a strep infection of your skin. You can have a tiny break in your skin that you were not even aware of, and the normal skin bacteria could then enter in and cause a local strep infection. The "scabbing" is what makes me especially suspicious. Try washing with antibacterial wash, put on antibiotic ointment, and if not better in a few days, see doc. ...Read more
