Clean, don't scratch: Clean the bedding well. Gently clean your body well too and wipe w/ diluted vinegar or witch hazel, etc. Use a hypoallergic lotion too. Allergy/irritant: Two possibilities come to mind: (a) soap or detergent got trapped in the ring causing the irritation (b) you have become allergic to the metal in the ring.
