What is best for chronic sinusitis? Allega d, Claritin (loratadine) d or zyrtec d

What is best for chronic sinusitis? Allega d, Claritin (loratadine) d or zyrtec d

Probably neither: The medications that you describe are all antihistamines. They rarely are effective in eradicating an inflammation that has been present for 3 months (definition of chronic sinusitis). Even if allergy is part of your problem, these medications are not very effective. A better anti-inflammatory drug that might help temporarily is prednisone. ...Read more

How effective is Claritin (loratadine) d to help with allergy asthma?

How effective is Claritin (loratadine) d to help with allergy asthma?

Antihistamines help: Claritin (loratadine) +/- d, zyrtec +/- d, or Allegra +/- d can help with allergy and asthma symptoms caused by allergies to respiratory pollens or other airborne allergens. One should work with his doctor to see which combination of over-the-counter allergy meds and prescription asthma inhalers/pills work the best. A patient will learn over time, what medicines to adjust, depending on how "bad" the air is. ...Read more

Can I take clariton d and zyrtec (cetirizine) d together?

Can I take clariton d and zyrtec (cetirizine) d together?

Not a great idea: There is likely no added benefit of taking these two medications together. The real question is what kind of symptoms are you attempting to treat. There are other medication that can treat nasal symptoms that are better than antihistamines with decongestant including intranasal steroid sprays. See an Allergist if you would like more guidance on what combination of meds can improve your symptoms. ...Read more

Is Claritin (loratadine) d good for someone with a dust allergy?

Is Claritin (loratadine) d good for someone with a dust allergy?

Maybe: Loratidine (claritin) can help, but i find it takes 2 - 4 days to begin to give symptom relief. Ceterizine (zyrtec) is also once/day, and usually helps with the first dose. With either, the generic is just as good. I'm not a fan of longterm decongestants (the "d") - they tend to thicken the congestion and dry you out, plus have lots of side effects. If really stuffy, use plain sudafed x 1-2 days. ...Read more

Does Claritin (loratadine) work for sun allergy?

Does Claritin (loratadine) work for sun allergy?

Partially: I assume you mean hives or itchy rash from sun exposure (solar urticaria or polymorphous light eruption). Antihistamines can help treat the itch associated with the hives. If rash occurs often, taking an antihistamine daily may help. Sunscreen with uva and uvb blockers may help as well. These may not help other sun-sensitive rashes (eg, with lupus). See an allergist or dermatologist for more info. ...Read more
