Fexofenadine is an antihistamine which is used to treat allergies such as hayfever, and hives. It can be taken once or twice a day. It is a second generation antihistamine and does not cause as much drowsiness as other antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (benaryl) or chlorpheniramine. Always be careful about drowsiness with any antihistamine especially if driving ...Read more
Been taking Claritin (loratadine) niacin & Flonase for ringing in my ears and stuffiness. Can allergies cause the stuffy nose and slight ache in ears?
Deviated septum causing post nasal drip. Started Flonase and that isn't working. Got an air purifier that isn't working. It's affecting my breathing.
Post nasal drip: A deviated nasal septum most commonly causes nasal obstruction/stuffiness on one side. Post nasal drip can be related to mucus draining from the sinuses into the back of the throat from allergies or sinus infection. Flonase and other nasal steroids take several days to be really effective, but are the most effective treatment for allergies. An ENT or allergist may be able to sort things out. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If I have cronic sinus pressure, inner ear fluid, blocked ears and ringing without runny nose or watery eyes or itching can it be allergies?
Possible/less likely: Allergies can cause these symptoms that you mentioned. But it could be chronic sinusitis. In that case, antibiotics or sometimes surgery can help. You should see an ear, nose, throat doctors first, and later also do an allergy testing to rule out allergies. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably not: Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a very commonly utilized anti-allergic medication that has had extensive usage in both the U.S. And foreign markets. It's most common side effect is drowsiness. If you are congested and are taking zyrtec, (cetirizine) the ringing maybe coming from fluid buildup in your middle ear. If its not better by the week-end. You need to get it looked at. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Taking zyrtec (cetirizine) & sudafed for allergy symptoms from eustachian td. Sit/stand symptoms are gone. When i lay down though, my inner ears & body itch. Why?
Allergies?: Technically, the inner ear shouldn't itch, but the middle ear behind the eardrum can itch. Seasonal allergies can frequently present with body and middle ear itching, at least partly due to widespread histamine release in allergic reaction, even once the eustachian tubes clear and equilibrium is back to normal. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Got cold. Sinuses were stuffed, cleared them up. Just ear is stuffed. Taking Afrin (oxymetazoline). Had slight fever but gone now. Ear infection? Or sinus congestion?
Probably both: If you have history of ear and sinus infections you are more prone to get these, which frequently come together due to the interconnected spaces in ear and nasal cavities. You can be seen by your regular doctor for antibiotics and sinus decongestant that has worked for you in the past. ...Read more
My asthma seems aggravated by my post nasal drip. Can't seem to clear my throat entirely. Bad allergies, chronic sinusitis. Will sudafed help?
That and others: Sudafed can help but try not to use it for a prolonged time. There are anti-allergy meds that can help also. I find nasal saline irrigation to helps me and my patients. It seems weird at first, but hang in there, it is actually quite good at relieving nose related symptoms. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Can Afrin and Flonase thickin the fluid in Eustachian Tube? I used both yesterday 2 sprays in each nostril. My left ear feels clogged today.
Not likely: Flonase does not reach optimum potency until used consistently for days. It is more likely that whatever causes one to use nose sprays in the first place results in inefficient Eustachian Tube drainage due to inflammation. Stay the course as advised by your physician. Make sure to review the warnings on these if using otc. ...Read more
With chronic allergic rhinosinustis i m tkng claritine 10mg/day &flixonase .5% 1 puf/nostril/day.will these meds fix underlying cause or just mask it?
Both: Sinusitis often occurs because of chronic blockage on the sinus openings leading to infection. Flonase can reduce the swelling in the nasal mucosa if used long enough (takes several days to get best results) but the dose you are using can be increased to 2 sprays. However some may still require an antibiotic. ...Read more

Could TMJ cause persistent blocked nose /nasal congestion (one side, sometimes both, no snot) . Already went to ENT and had mri. Nothing's wrong. No a?
May be different: Although TMJ issues can cause many different symptoms, it's very possible that your upper airway congestion is due to allergy or other non-tmj conditions. Has your primary care practitioner suggested the possibility your congestion could be allergy-related? It is more common for patients with TMJ conditions to complain of ear congestion. Make sure you discuss this with your physician or arnp. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
