Allegra Caused My Eustachian
Are there other medicine I can take with Allegra (fexofenadine) D that won't cause bad side effects?
Fexofenadine is an antihistamine which is used to treat allergies such as hayfever, and hives. It can be taken once or twice a day. It is a second generation antihistamine and does not cause as much drowsiness as other antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (benaryl) or chlorpheniramine. Always be careful about drowsiness with any antihistamine especially if driving ...Read more

Expired allegra (fexofenadine):

Allegra (fexofenadine) and hives: Hello, we commonly use Allegra (fexofenadine) to treat hives or urticaria. This is a helpful medication because of the lack of sedation. Even at twice the normal recommended dosage. So it is unlikely to cause hives but you can have an allergy to antihistamines that could lead to the development of hives. That would be most unlucky. ...Read more
Middle Ear: The eustachian tube is our drainage (& pressure equalizer) for our middle ear, obstructed by excessive mucous production (colds, allergy, smoke exposure), thick mucous due to infection or antihistamines, blowing your nose hard/refilling your ear with mucous, & lymphoid/adenoid tissue obstructing drainage. In children, the tube is narrow & horizontal & plugs more easily. ...Read more
I have allergies but can't take allegra (fexofenadine) cause it makes me feel really drugged. Is it ok for me to just half of it every morning?
Would taking allegra (fexofenadine) daily cause me to get a headache? I had a headache that hurt when I moved my head. Later the pain went away on its own.
Not likely.: Eustacian tube dysfunction is caused when the eustacian tube, which connects the ear to the nose, can not drain properly. This usually is caused by inflammation due to an ear infection, cold, sinus infection, allergies or the like. Looking down does not effect the angle of the tube, nor should it cause the tube to become clogged or inflamed in any way. ...Read more

Apart from colds, what other things cause eustachian tube dysfunction? I have been diagnosed with it and would like to know other causes.
See below: Anything that causes the lining of the nose to become irritated or inflamed-narrows the eustachian tub opening or passageway. Colds, allergies, pollution, smoke. Obesity can predispose one too. Very rarely is it a sign of more serious problems like nasal polyps, cleft palate or tumor. ...Read more
Can I take Claritin (loratadine) 24 hour with allegra 24 hour? I took the Claritin (loratadine) cause that's all I had but my husband bought allegra which I prefer.
Not if "D" formula: Often the number 24 refers to the "d" formulas. Claritin (loratadine) d24 and Allegra d 24 each contain 240 mg of pseudoephedrine, equivalent to 8 small red tablets of sudafed. You definitely wouldn't want to take 2 of the decongestant type of these medications in one day. On the other hand, taking one plain Claritin (loratadine) 10 mg and one plain Allegra 180 mg on the same day would be fine. Much more was used in tests. ...Read more

I randomly broke out in hives. First time ever. Don't know what caused it. And never have been known to be allergic to anything. Should I take allegra (fexofenadine)?
Unusual: Eustachian tube dysfunction generally causes ear symptoms such as blocked hearing or ear ache and congestion in the rear of nasal passages is the mechanism of the dysfunction. In my experience headache is not seen in eustachian tube problems, but an otolaryngologist is more qualified to answer your question. ...Read more
Can drinking a lot of water cause fluid in your Eustachian Tube to be worse? How many bottles of Poland spring water is okay to drink?
No: The Eustachian tube is just that a tube. It connects the inner ear to the back of the throat. No fluid stays in it. Drink enough so that you urinate mostly clear. If you are nauseous from drinking water it is too much. There is no magic number of bottles of water. The 8 glasses a day is not based in science. ...Read more
Yes: Blockage of the eustachian tube, can cause fluid build up in your middle ear, which could also cause issues with your inner ear, causing vertigo. If this is the cause, the treatment would be to either reduce the inflammation in the area, relieve the congestion or both. This is usually done with antibiotics, but I like to prescribe steroids. Keep in mind, that there are other things that can cause ...Read more

Is zyrtec or allegra (fexofenadine) better for chronic hives of unknown cause? Can I take either one daily & will it help hives go away?
Yes, it usually helps and you may take even up to 4 x daily (or 4x the average dose) if necessary. Zyrtec works a little faster and may be more potent than Allegra (fexofenadine) but there is a small chance of getting drowsy.
At times hives can be so severe that no antihistamine would control them. If this has been present for >8 wks, consider seeing an allergist. ...Read more
