Allegra And Breastfeeding
Fexofenadine is an antihistamine which is used to treat allergies such as hayfever, and hives. It can be taken once or twice a day. It is a second generation antihistamine and does not cause as much drowsiness as other antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (benaryl) or chlorpheniramine. Always be careful about drowsiness with any antihistamine especially if driving ...Read more
Can i take these two medications together for my cough/congestion and allergies? Allegra (fexofenadine) d and Robitussin-DM
Pick one: While both zyrtec (cetirizine) and Claritin (loratadine) are approved for treatment of allergies in children, it is rarely necessary to use both at the same time. In my experience, Claritin works for many and zyrtec works for most patients. While there is little harm to combining these, it doesn't add to the effectiveness. ...Read more
I take Pepcid and Claritin daily for reflux and allergies respectively. Nursing 7 month old. Okay?
Safe: Pepcid (famotidine) is used in newborns in levels higher than would be found in breastmilk. It is safe. Claritin (loratadine) an antihistamine might alter breast milk flow. Consider instead using nasal steroid or nasal cromolyn (both over the counter). Both are safe with breastfeeding. ...Read more
Is it ok to take zyrtec (cetirizine) (antihistamine for allergies) and dayquil (cold/flu medicine) together?
Depends: If you are taking plain zyrtec (cetirizine) (antihistamine only) you can take dayquil, but you should not take nyquil which also contains an antihistamine. Zyrtec (cetirizine) d contains a decongestant and antihistamine so it should not be mixed with other meds such as dayquil. It is always important to read the ingredient labels of any over the counter medicines as many medicine contain the same or similar ingredients. ...Read more
Basically ok: It has not been found any serious adverse effect in children who breastfed from women who take allegra (fexofenadine). It is a non sedating antihistaminic so should be ok. Studies have seen rare cases of mild irritability in babies but nothing serious. The only potential problem would be that in occasions it has been noticed to affect milk production. No evidence of anything serious so far. ...Read more
Breast Feeding: Small, occasional doses of Diphenhydramine would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. Larger doses or more prolonged use may cause effects in the infant or decrease the milk supply. This is taken from the drug and lactation database web site where you can search for drugs. I am taking regular allegra (fexofenadine) 24 hours along with flonase and eye drops. Not getting much relief....is it safe to also take zyrtec d or sudafed d?
It is safe to take: sudafed, but not zyrtec and allegra (fexofenadine) together-only 1 or the other. I would try zyrtec, it is stronger than allegra (fexofenadine). No decongestants if you have high blood pressure. No zyrtec D and sudafed together, as they both contain decongestants. Use zyrtec plain. ...Read more
Can I take Zyrtec and Claritin together? Or can I take Zyrtec and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to boost the Zyrtec? Will taking Mucinex DM along with Zyrtec help?
See your doctor: If your allergies are not controlled with one med alone, stepping up to a different med like flonase, nasonex, etc., will likely help you more than taking two antihistamines. Zyrtec and Claritin will not help much at all if you have a cold and not allergies, though Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can dry up secretions somewhat. You can add Mucinex if you also have a cough. Talk with your doctor about your symptoms. ...Read more
