Then it's not Lyme: Lyme disease can be tricky -and you want to make sure you see someone like an Infectious Diseases doctor who knows how to treat it. The diagnosis is actually based on clinical findings, and the lab testing is generally 'supportive'. Since you're Western blot is negative, then it's very unlikely you have Lyme. There are other diseases that could cause 'Lyme-like' symptoms -and good to get evaluated ...Read more
I have no symptoms of any type. I tested my std panel with hiv test so all came negative hsv1/2 IgM neg. And hsv1/2 IgG positive. Am I hsv neg or not?
Conflicting results : Not exactly sure what tests were ordered - but a healthy individual does not produce antibodies to HIV. However, a negative screening test means only that there is no evidence of disease at the time of the test. Head back to your primary care physician for a follow-up. Hope that helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I tested positive/treated for strep 5x (rsat), little/no symptoms. Last test was positive, culture was negative. What causes false positive results?
Latent infection?: Some people have recurrent MRSA (multiply-resistant strep aureus) infections that are treated successfully and recur. There is a possibility that they (or you) could be harboring strep in your nose. The sinuses don't have great blood flow, and so may potentially "hide" bacteria. This could explain your odd results. Put bactroban (mupirocin) up your nose daily as a preventive measure, and see what happens. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, you did not say what symptoms, what tests and what were the actual results. It would be prudent to discuss the matter with your doctor. ...Read more

2 pregnancy tests negitive but I have all the early signs of pregnancy and missed period so why are the tests negitive?
Am I pregnant?: There are no symptoms that are specific to pregnancy. The first thought is that you have not ovulated this month for some reason and you hormones are in fluctuation. That would explain the symptoms. Or you tested too really and should test again in a few days if the period does not start. ...Read more

I, m two month no period have all the symptoms of being pregnant home tests neg, blood test neg. Blood work for mp are neg. Still pgt symptom scare.
Talk to your doctor: Clearly most of what can be done to prove you are not pregnant has been done, so there must be other explanations for your symptoms. You have not stated your age so i can't guess reasonably at which of many possibilities is your correct diagnosis, but a gynecologist should be able to figure this out. ...Read more

Here are some ...: Generally speaking the number or values as quoted in the literature are so-called normal "range" to cover some 95% of cases and should be used as references of daily medical practice and living, not at 100% like machine. Yes, early infection: It takes a few weeks for the blood tests to become positive, so false neg is common soon after infection. Once infction is established and a few weeks have passed, false negatives are rare. And even in those rare circumstances, the infection usually is not active or likely to be damaging. If outwardly healthy, a neg blood test is virtually 100% assurance against active or transmissible syphilis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Need expert advice. After sex, how long should you wait until you get a syphilis test to make sure the virus has already shown up?
Early syphilis: Initial syphilis manifests on the average of 21 days as a painless ulcer in mucosa/genital areas... If this lesion was missed becuase the ulcer is normally painless I would get the test in 2 months. That being said, i would also get a test for other sexually transmitted diseases like hepatitis C and B and HIV. Syphilis is a spirochete -- a type of spiral-shaped bacteria and not a virus. ...Read more
How long would the RPR syphilis test be accurate after infection. Would it be accurate between 1-2 years after exposure or is it less reliable then?
Very reliable: First, RPR is no longer the usual first blood test for syphilis. Most labs now start with an IgG ELISA. Either this or RPR is always positive within 6 weeks. In other words, a negative test more than 6 weeks after the last posssible exposure, including 1-2 years, proves you do not have active syphilis. However, a positive results isn't necessarily reliable; positives require confirmatory testing. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Be skeptical: Lyme disease is not transmitted sexually, but through bites from infected ticks. Dfm reliability is dependent on the person doing it, and may be manipulated in an attempt to sell you unproven or even dangerous treatments for lyme disease. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
