Alkaline Phosphatase Test High
Liver disease, etc..: This usually means liver involvement. It can also mean biliary obstruction, pregnancy, and bone diseases. If can be transiently elevated in acute pancreatitis. Other lab values need to be looked at to determine the specific cause. See your doctor to go over the rest of the blood work. ...Read more
Elevated ALT levels and alkaline phosphatase direct bilirubin is .2 not very old only 18 gained about 30 pounds in 3 months what do these test mean?
U R seriously sick: I see you are an 18 year old male taking "provigil", a stimulant prescribed for sleep apnea and narcolepsy and used illicitly to promote wakefulness. It can poison your liver and you need to talk with your physician about this. The fact that you've gotten fat in 3 months is very worrisome. Your doctor must rule hepatitis, hemochromatosis, wilson's, fatty liver and more in or out. ...Read more
Test came back 199ran test on alkaline phosphatase said high in intestine an liver please let know more in intestine?
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, alkaline phsophatase is made in the liver, intestine, bone and placenta. It would be prudent to see your doctor to ascertain the cause of elevated enzyme. ...Read more
Husband got test results he has high alkaline phosphatase. He had a beer every day before his blood tests because he was on vacation. Can that affect?
No: Slightly high alk phos without other abnormalities is seldom worth following up. If it's nonfasting, it means exactly nothing. If it's fasting, it still probably means nothing. Some folks just run it high. Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthies are outside on either end. ...Read more
My husband got his blood test results back and his levels of alkaline phosphatase were high he s a healthy 26 year old who has never had any other problems the week he got blood work done he was on vacation and he had beers almost every day since he was o
Hard to say: If the alkaline phosphatase was high while other liver enzymes were normal, it can indicate many things - gallbladder or bone problems would be high on the list. Additional tests to break down the alk phos and additional tests of liver, gallbladder and bone function can help make a diagnosis. However, it is not uncommon to have mild-moderate elevations of alk phos and never find a cause. ...Read more
Wbc, alkaline phosphatase, and chloride high in blood test. plus leukocytes in urine. what does it mean? Been fatigued with nausea and diarrhea
Varies: Multiple potential causes and it may be more than one thing. Leukocytes in the urine can be one of the findings if a urinary tract infection. A full urinanalysis and culture can give more detail. If a urinary infection gets up in the kidney it can cause more systemic symptoms, such as an elevated white count. A detailed exam and further studies will likely determine the cause. ...Read more
I have alkaline phosphatase elevated (450u/l) as well as (sgpt), (sgot), and ama test is positive, age 37y (woman), have anaemia and low level of iron?
Sort this out: You need to be told straight-up whether you are going to be diagnosed with & treated for primary biliary cirrhosis. If you also have iron deficiency anemia, the cause needs to be found. I hope you are not a non-supplementing vegetarian & that a search for possible sources of blood loss is underway. Be proactive & insist on answers. Good luck. ...Read more
Chronic elevated alkaline phosphatase. GGT normal, other blood test negative. Liver ultrasound clear. My doctors said it is a mystery of elevated AP.
Not necessarily live: Alk. Phos. can be elevated in liver disease, but the enzyme is found in other organs, including bone, biliary tract ( gall bladder), intestine and, interesting, the placenta! Certain medications can also cause an elevation. At the very least, a gallbladder ultrasound, a measurement of parathyroid hormone, calcium & phosphate levels and a review of your meds should be done. ...Read more
Wrong approach: Alkaline phosphatase is a lab value to tell a physician what is happening, not a medical problem to treat. It can be high just because you're growing (teens tend to be maybe 5x the upper limit of the reference range). About 5% of older folks have a high alk phos for "no reason", presumably paget's of the bone that never becomes evident; nonfasting samples may have it from the intestine. ...Read more

Plenty: You describe yourself as a 73 year old lady and i'm betting you feel well but have an alk phos a bit high on your routine chemical profile. Many folks, depending on blood type, shoot the alk phos up after eating. Maybe 5% of folks your age have a high alk phos because of subclinical paget's disease which we aren't going to treat or worry about. "treat the person, not the labs.". ...Read more
I doubt it: At age 38? I'd hope not -- you don't want to shop for new clothes. Many folks spike their alk phos after eating, so often it means nothing. If it's real, and it's more than a wee bit above reference range, it may mean anything from pregnancy to space-occupying lesions of the liver to subtle paget's of the bone (very common), but it almost never worth working up by itself. ...Read more
Liver or bone: Answer can depend on situation. Pregnancy can raise alk phos level. In general, however, the source is either liver or bone and the reason should be determined, since the causes can be treated. There are too many possibilities to list and your doctor will have to determine the source, possibly by doing additional testing. Liver may mean hepatitis or bile duct blockage. Bone can be paget's disease. ...Read more
Relax: First, food choices are almost never the key to getting well. This is rubbish. Second, labs reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. Third, if the specimen is non-fasting, elevated alk phos means nothing. Fourth, isolated elevated alk phos is not an indicator of any treatable illness. Stop worrying, stay physically fit, and be glad for good health. ...Read more
Liver bone & GB: Liver disease, bone disease and gallbladder are most common. However an elevated alk phos does not absolutely mean there is a true disease present. ...Read more
High ALKALINE phosphatase but EVERYTHING else normal. Had a total replacement 1month ago. Is this the reason or what else could be?
Varies: Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme usually associated with bone turnover. If it is mildly elevated and normalizing, then it could potentially be related to your surgery. If it is highly elevated, then there may be other considerations, Paget's disease being just one possible consideration. ...Read more
