What does elevated alkaline phosphatase, vitamin d deficiency, and anemia indicate?

What does elevated alkaline phosphatase, vitamin d deficiency, and anemia indicate?

Seek cause: Vitamin d deficiency is very common today & may explain the high alk phos in an adult; it's usually due to misguided "healthy" lifestyles avoiding sunlight and vitamin-d enriched dairy products. Anemia is more worrisome and always requires a real medical workup; nutritional iron deficiency is rampant in our world but other causes must be sought as well. Good luck & stay proactive. ...Read more

Alkaline Phosphatase (Definition)

The normal range is 20 to 140 iu/l.[12] high levels can indicate active bone formation occurring as alp is a byproduct of osteoblast activity (such as the case in paget's disease of bone). Levels are also elevated in people with untreated celiac ...Read more

I have low vitamin d, low alkaline phosphatase, high uric acid and high triglycerides. Is there something that links all of these together?

I have low vitamin d, low alkaline phosphatase, high uric acid and high triglycerides. Is there something that links all of these together?

There is some: Relationship between low vitamin D and alkaline phosphatase as both influence bone metabolism. But typically dysfunctional bone turnover raises alkaline phosphatase; a low value suggests some impairment of the gall bladder/bile duct/liver system. High uric acid is often genetic, but can be dietary: seafood (scallops/sardines), liver, red meat. Beer/sugary drinks raise uric acid and triglycerides! ...Read more

Vitamin d was 15.6 ng/ml and normal calcium high in pth and alkaline phosphatase serum level?

Vitamin d was 15.6 ng/ml and normal calcium high in pth and alkaline phosphatase serum level?

Replace vitamin d: Vitamin d deficiency is very common. You need vitamin d to absorb calcium from the intestines. When you don't have enough vitamin d, in order to keep your blood calcium levels normal, your make more PTH to pull calcium from the bones and that raises the alkaline phosphatase. Replacing vitamin d should normalize all the tests. ...Read more

Hi. I have pth 95.80 pg/ml and normal calcium level and vitamin d was 15.6 ng/ml high in alkaline phosphatase 132 u/l?

Hard to tell: Is your calcium low normal or high normal? From the labs above, the only thing I can say right now is you have secondary hyperparathyroidism due to the low vitamin d. The best thing to do right now is to correct the vitamin d into the normal range (30-50). Once this is done, the PTH should drop back into the normal range. If not, then you also have primary hyperparathyroidism. ...Read more

56 year old (arthritis, lichen sclerosis, yeast) normal blood work except sed rate (42) and alk phos (121) vitamin d 23.9. What are the implications?

Can't be sure.: Blood work without context can be very misleading. Your doc should be able to explain why they drew these tests and what they think of the results.

I might be concerned about the alk phos or ESR if you had a lot of symptoms, but if you are feeling well I am not much concerned. I would suggest that you take 1000 iu vit d each day. ...Read more

My Alkaline Phosphatase was high. What foods should I eat to lower my ALP??

Relax: First, food choices are almost never the key to getting well. This is rubbish. Second, labs reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. Third, if the specimen is non-fasting, elevated alk phos means nothing. Fourth, isolated elevated alk phos is not an indicator of any treatable illness. Stop worrying, stay physically fit, and be glad for good health. ...Read more

What does it mean when you have high alkaline phosphatase levels, but low bilirubin, high aspartate transaminase?

See a hepatologist: In this setting, an elevated alkaline phosphatase (also known as alk phos), may be an indicator of bile duct obstruction, but can also be elevated in a number of other diseases, including immune injury to the bile ducts, such as primary sclerosing cholangitis or primary biliary cirrhosis. Alk phos can also be elevated in the presence of liver masses and infection. ...Read more

Suffering from hepatitis a, I still have high levels of alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin. Main problem is severe itching all round the day, ?

Yes: The elevated bilirubin is what causes the itching. The bilirubin is deposited in the skin, that is what makes you yellow, and it itches. There is nothing you can do except wait until your liver gets better and the bilirubin drops down to normal.

In the meantime, taking an antihistamine might help, but you have to watch for sedation. Talk to your doctor about that. ...Read more

Stop worrying: If it's non-fasting and you do not have blood group A or AB (which inactivate intestinal alk phos), you're probably normal. Most folks who run a slightly high alk phos, which is common, never find the cause and it never reveals a treatable problem that you won't find on routine history and physical. Hard to say: If the alkaline phosphatase was high while other liver enzymes were normal, it can indicate many things - gallbladder or bone problems would be high on the list. Additional tests to break down the alk phos and additional tests of liver, gallbladder and bone function can help make a diagnosis. However, it is not uncommon to have mild-moderate elevations of alk phos and never find a cause. ...Read more

How should I lower my alkaline phosphatase?

Elevated Alk Phos: Question would be why is your alkaline phosphatase elevated? ? If the levels are abnormal, there is usually a reason. Treating the symptoms without understanding why you have an elevated level is counter-productive. You should see your primary care physicians and have labs re-checked. If it's persistently high, then there should be referral to a rheumatologist or orthopedic surgeon. ...Read more
