Aleve Or Ibuprofen After A Brain Bleed

I'm 85, quite healthy and will have a vicodin or anaprox (naproxen) three or four hours after a second or third beer. Problem?
No problem: Anaprox (naproxen) you can wash down with beer, if really want to--but have something on your stomach to avoid upset. Think of each vicodin as about 2 drinks (if small build + being older, perhaps 3)--if you would not feel in control / steady after a couple - three beers + 3, then wait. Usually each drink (1oz ethanol equivalent) metabolized in just over an hour, so 3hrs after 3 beers almost like no beers. ...Read more

Aleve (naproxen) post stroke?: I'm afraid that my answer to your question will be a series of other questions. Was your stroke caused by a blood clot or a ruptured blood vessel? What other medications did your doctor place you on after the stroke? If you are on warfarin (Coumadin) or any other blood thinner, I would not recommend Aleve (naproxen) which is one of the brands of Naproxen. It's best to talk with your physician first. ...Read more

Is it possible to get stomach bleeding from taking 2 Excedrin caplets? No history of ulcers or stomach bleedinf. Usually only take tylenol (acetaminophen).
Possible, not likely: Any nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (nsaid), including aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxyn, can cause (usually painless) gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding. It usually takes more than a single dose of 2 Aspirin (excedrin). Infection with h pylori bacteria can cause ulcers; the 2 together more likely to cause problems. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

No, not early on: It is typically not recommended to take nsaids, of which aleve is one, in the early stages of concussion. This is because of the small but significant risk of bleeding that occurs with NSAID use and the possibility that there may be more of an injury to the brain (a bleed from a vessel injury) than just concussion. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is preferred as it is not an nsaid. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I took a 325 Bayer at 7-8pm for pain.. Can I take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Aleve now or ibuprofen?
Aspirin strong: but rather short acting. The plasma half-life of Aspirin is only 20 minutes Tylenol will NOT interact with it at all. The other medications do overlap with Aspirin for their action both in lowering pain/inflammation and also in effects on blood vessel (sl. increased fluid retention; interferes with aspirin's protection from heart attack/stroke) and on ulcers (they all add up). Aspirin goes fast ...Read more
