Can motrin and Aleve (naproxen) be taken together for tooth pain my 13 yr old has severe pain and needs a root canal but motrin alone doesn't seem to be working

No: I would recommend alternating between otc Motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) every 3-4 hours for short term pain relief. See the dentist as soon as possible for definitive treatment of the tooth in question. Definitive treatment is root canal or extraction. ...Read more

Is motrin the same or similar to Aleve (naproxen)?

Is motrin the same or similar to Aleve (naproxen)?

Not same: But they are similar (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Aleve (aka naprosyn/naproxen) is taken twice a day whereas ibuprofen (aka Motrin, Advil) is a med that can be taken every 6 to 8 hours (this 3 or 4 times a day). Both drugs work by reducing the inflammatory response by the body. You should use one or the other, but not both at the same time to reduce risk of GI upset and kidney stress ...Read more

Is motrin or Aleve (naproxen) better for knee pains from running?

No real difference: Both are nsaids and both have the same mechanism of action. Motrin (ibuprofen) tends to be shorter acting and needs to be taken every 4-6 hours while Aleve (naproxen) is longer acting and needs to be taken every 12 hours. Both will work for the knee pain. ...Read more

Achilles tendonitis is better with tylenol, (acetaminophen) motrin, or aleve?

Achilles tendonitis is better with tylenol, (acetaminophen) motrin, or aleve?

No right answer: All are pain relievers. Motrin and Aleve also reduce inflammation and are similar drugs. I believe that taking drugs like Motrin may prevent healing of a tendon injury since the body uses inflammation to help stimulate healing. Therefore, tylenol (acetaminophen) might be a better first choice, along with ice and rest followed by a physical therapy program if not improving on it's own. ...Read more

Enter data entry for 40 hrs week, concerned may be arthritis in my middle finger I am on a computer everyday and use the 10key the majority of my day. Recently i've been concerned about middle finger;since with Aleve and motrin and ice and heat packs it i

First: : First: rest assured that the idea that computers can harm your hands is overstated and likely a myth. The symptoms are nonspecific and it's not clear what you mean by "crack". There are some common finger conditions that your primary care doctor or a hand surgeon could check you for, and the vast, vast majority are benign. Remember, pain makes us prepare for the worst because it was an evolutionary advantage to have such a "pain alarm", but just like the smoke alarm in the kitchen, most pain alarms are false alarms. You're going to be able to rely on your hands! ...Read more

I have naproxen , motrin, what would be best to take for elbow pain util i see a doctor?

Matter of opinion: The advantage of Naproxen is that it lasts a bit longer than Ibuprofen (motrin). Naproxen should be taken every 12 hours; Ibuprofen every 6 - 8 hours. Some people find one works better for them than the other. Personally, Naproxen seems to work better for musculoskeletal pain, but it upsets my stomach. ...Read more

My daughter suffering w/ osgood schlatter wears supportive brace, ices leg, tried motrin gave her diahreaa , changed to naproxen same result now what?

Common side effect: Diarrhea is a side effect of any NSAID. You could try Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain, but it may not be as effective. Unfortunately the best treatment for OSD, is to stop doing the activity that makes it hurt until the pain goes away. I'd discuss your options with her orthopedist. ...Read more
