What does elevated aldolase mean?

Marker of tissue: Injury. Aldolase is a non-specific marker of tissue injury. Why did you have the test done? What were other lab tests and what were the results. If a mild elevation in aldolase is the only finding, it may not be worth pursuing. ...Read more

Our daughter has elevated aldolase and lph. She has a complex chronic pain disorder. What should be looked at? Eeg is normal. Mri shows white matter.

Growing pains?: If your daughter is nearing puberty the laboratory studies just indicated hormone effects and growth effects. Mri changes need to be evaluated by a good specialist, but may be normal variant. The chronic pain disorder is becoming a major epidemic now among young people. Be careful not to over react or over treat. She needs counseling to help with pain management. ...Read more

How can high level aldolase be treated?

Why is aldolase high: We do not treat laboratory findings. Why is aldolase elevated? Why was the test done? What other tests were done and what were the findings? Aldolase is non-specific marker of tissue injury. ...Read more

Increased aldolase, complement c3/c4 serum, sed rate, c-react. Protein, beta globulin, monocytes, bun/creatin low mcv-mch, vit d-possible causes?

Complicated: When I was doing clinical medicine, these were collectively sort of the flags for sarcoid disease but I am not saying that's the case here. This is because sarcoid is a diagnosis of exclusion so the advice is to rule out other diseases with additional diagnostic tests which can be done by a primary care physician or rheumatologist. ...Read more

I had normal CPK aldolase ESR repeatedly and other blood normal along with normal emg/ncv. Normal skin biopsy. Can you still have a muscle disease?

Difficult: This question (and the related one you asked) are very difficult because I don't have enough data. The short answer is 'yes, maybe', but normal CPK and aldolase rule out a lot of possible muscle diseases. You may need a spine MRI to evaluate possible spinal cord disorders, but your physicians (especially I hope a neurologist) can best judge the nature of your problem and how to investigate it. ...Read more

What do elevated CPK and aldolase mean?

Muscle injury: CPK (an old term) is a marker of injury to muscle, be it skeletal, cardiac or smooth muscle. Aldolase is a non-specific marker of tissue injury and does not add any more information. Why did you have the tests done? What were the findings of other tests? ...Read more

What could increased creatine kinase and aldolase levels indicate?

What could increased creatine kinase and aldolase levels indicate?

Likely muscle injury: Creatine kinase and aldolase would both be elevated after a muscle injury.
Ck can also be elevated in kidney failure.
Adolase can be sub-classified into a, b and c which helps differentiate from which tissue the high levels came. ...Read more

Why do you ask?: What do you think you have? Myasthenia gravis? Mitochondria myopathy? Mcardle's? Periodic paralysis? Myotonia congenita? Lumping everything together as "muscle disease" and expecting any sort of unifying set of labs / tests is naive. Start with your symptoms / signs and let a competent scientific physician rule the entities in or out until an explanation is found. ...Read more

What blood test beside CPK and aldolase are good test for muscle breakdown or dystrophy?

Skeletal muscle: Ck or CPK is the best test for muscle breakdown. Alsolsae can be occasionally elevated in patients with myositis who have normal ck levels. Ldh isoenzymes, transaminases, & ck isoenzymea are other tests, but unlikely to be of value if CPK & aldolase are normal. Measuring inflammatory markers & serological studies may help narrow the possibilities. Sometimes a nerve study +/- biopsy are needed. ...Read more

Can magnesium levels be normal and still be deficient? I have muscle spasms and twitches but normal emg/ncv normal CPK aldolase as well..

Still, there are many instances when normal levels are still causing cramping and supplementation helps...... ...Read more

What can cause muscle burning with no weakness? Normal CPK aldolase ESR and lactic acid 5 times each...No 1 can figure it out. Horrible pain all day

Ouch: Hard to say. Maybe someone called it fibromyalgia which is a pain syndrome without a good explanation. Sounds like over-the-counter pain meds haven't helped. There are pills like Gabapentin that help for various nervy pain problems. Maybe ask about it. ...Read more

My CPK lever is 509 but Aldolase is normal. I have muscle weekness on the right side hand, arm and leg and sometimes on the left side.

Use HealthTap Prime: You are in need of a diagnosis that explains your symptoms. Muscle aldolase is usually the best indicator of muscle damage; CPK can accumulate in the absence of muscle damage in certain conditions like renal insufficiency / chronic kidney disease, but is also released by the heart, brain. Use HealthTap Prime to discuss your symptoms & medications. You can interact live & get to the bottom of this. ...Read more

Rheum workup, norm. C3, high c4, high aldolase. Workup done due to degenerative joint issues, and inflammatory issues (lungs). All else normal?

Discuss with MD: It is best to discuss with your doctor. There were reasons why these tests were ordered and there are diseases that involve both the lungs and muscles together. Also the degree of elevation may or may not mean anything. We can't surmise what your doctor was thinking so discuss your case with your md. ...Read more

Had blood test done by a neurologist and all items came back normal besides low aldolase. 1.9 U/L. My symptoms are leg cramps in the back calves?

Normal results: It is actually normal from my reference, aldolase is an enzyme that helps with sugar breakdown to produce energy, high in muscle cells, without any further abnormalities, no risk or anything to worry about, probably next time it will be normal, usually not associated with muscle aches, potassium, calcium, sodium could be ...Read more

Was a muscle biopsy performed. Be aware that conditions such as fibromyalgia produce burning pain as well as tingling sensations in the hands and feet. ...Read more

Muscle pain and burning but no weakness? Normal emg and ncv twice this year. Normal petct brain. Normal bloods cpi aldolase. What could this be?

Probably not serious: Small fiber neuropathies can cause burning pain with a normal ncs/emg but the odds of this are pretty rare for a 25yo. When does this occur? With exercise? Maybe you are deconditioned. Anxiety can also play a part. If you are on klonopin, (clonazepam) does it help the symptoms? If you have no weakness and labs are also normal I would be more reassured. ...Read more
