Alcohol Back Rub
I'm Asian and i take Pepcid (famotidine) before i drink alcohol to reduce redness/flushness. If I do this 2-3x/week for several years, are there long term effects?
Fatty liver: Alcohol affects the way the liver process fat so your liver cells get stuffed full of it. If you drink often it can make your liver get fat – reducing your consumption can help it return to its normal size. You can spend half of your life damaging your body/liver and not feel any of the effects. Moderation is the key with or without pepcid (famotidine). ...Read more

Burning and sharp pains in kidneys and redness in face gets worse when drinking alcohol feel tired and run down a lot any suggestions thanks?
See your doc!: Sounds like you may be drinking a bit too much. But it may also be an allergic reaction, or some problem with your kidneys. Alcohol can give you a great high, but the downward plunge afterwards can be devastating! you can experiment by avoiding alcohol for a couple of weeks and see if the symptoms fade. If not, please check with a medical doctor. ...Read more

Blood test said I had high uric acid. I was told come back after 3 months for blood test (no alcohol or red meat). Will one night out affect it much?
Sorry: Once a gout attack is triggered, it is difficult to stop. High uric acid levels do not correlate perfectly with risk of experiencing a gouty joint. If a night out triggers gout, most patients would agree that it was not worth it. However, if it does not, most patients will agree that it was worth it. ...Read more

Lft test came back "satisfactory"...Still concerned due to excessive alcohol over the years. What are result levels ie. Good, satisfactory, bad etc?
Normal LFT's = good: High lft's imply inflammation of liver--due to viral infection (cytomegalovirus, epstein-barr virus, a, b, c, d, etc), familial diseases (hemochromatosis, wilson's, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, etc), infiltrative disease (steatohepatitis from fatty liver, granulomatous hepatitis, foreign body reaction), toxic (alcoholic, tylenol), ischemic, congestive, pregnancy-related, etc. Cause determines fix. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can alcohol really stay in your system for three days and can a drug test detect alcohol that far back?
Doubt it: This may be disinformation intended to trouble you. Alcohol is burned by the body with zero-order kinetics -- steady rate. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding. If you are on an abstinence program, I do hope that you'll comply because you want to -- for the sake of those you love rather than your own sake. ...Read more
Can a person that has abused alcohol go back to being a 'moderate' drinker? Or would they be forced to abstain altogether?
Why do you ask?: Most people who have at one time in their lives lost control with respect to alcohol will tell you that they cannot return to moderate drinking. Don't encourage anyone to test this. And if you've ruined a major part of your life, or nearly died, as a result of drinking, why would you WANT to go back to that stuff? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Blood: Drinking alcohol often causes a temporary reddening of the nose, especially in fair-skinned people. Depends on test: There is a urine test that looks for one (or both) of 2 substances - ethylglucuronide (etg) & ethyl sulfine (ets).
