I am taking fluconazole 400mg/day for my systemic candida. I there health dangers with the drug at that dose for 6 weeks?

Fluconazole use: Yes - you definitely need to be monitored if you are on long term anti fungal therapy - especially at a 'high dose' as you are on. I recommend at least weekly chemistry tests (checking the kidneys) and LIVER TESTS (checking the liver functions). Fluconazole can inflame the liver - and your doctor should be helping keep track of these things. Also, I recommend you see an ID doc if you have Candida ...Read more

Can you eat popcorn on a Candida diet? I'm on the diet b/c I've had a yeast infection for 3 mon, can't take fluconazole, & tried creams & boric acid.

Candida diet: Diets that are low in sugar and carbohydrates but high in raw garlic and probiotics can help keep yeast infections at bay. Herbal supplements such as Pau D'Arco (tincture or capsule form) or the Candida-Cleanse by SolaRay may be helpful. Popcorn does breakdown to a simple carbohydrate but overall is relatively low in sugar. ...Read more

Vaginal swab- heavy growth of Candida krusei. Second candida infection since 2015. Been on oral fluconazole for 4 days. What other tests should I do?

Fluconazole no good: Candida krusei usually is resistant to fluconazole. It's just bad luck, probably with no implications for your general health. You just need a different drug, and also should avoid other "azole" drugs. Unfortunately, C. krusei also can be resistant to some of the common alternate drugs. Ask your doctor about trying nystatin or caspofungin. Your strain can be tested to know which drugs are active. ...Read more

What test will rule out candida esophagitis or laryngeal candidiasis in an otherwise health non HIV positive person? What specialists do these tests?

Inhaled steroids?: Healthy people don't get candidal esophagitis. They might if they use inhaled steroids, or have rare immune deficiencies. Oral antibiotics might increase risk for oral candidal infection (thrush); shouldn't affect larynx. Ent docs can evaluate larynx, throat: less invasive than endoscopy. I have severe vaginal candida, as well as candida in the mouth, but a bit more mild. My doctor prescribed 1 pill of 100g fluconazole for 1 week. My liver feels weird. Is this the right dosage? I take one daily. I am 19.

Yeast treatment: Vaginal yeast is usually treated with topical anti fungal creams or one single done of Fluconazole. Multiple daily doses are typically not needed. If you are not responding to that therapy then your doctor should reevaluate you for other conditions that may be present. Unless your immune system is compromised it is not typical to have both vaginal and oral yeast. ...Read more

Diflucan-toe candida 2.5wks. Nail avulsion. Looked healthy til mon;now 2 new small abscesses. Md said other choice was terbinafine. Is diflucan (fluconazole) working?

If continues to get worse, see a podiatrist (specialist), you may need antibiotics and not antifungal meds. ...Read more

I had a red, dry, itchy rash on my thigh for 2 weeks that kept getting bigger because I scratched. It stopped itching and turned purple the day I applied fluconazole left-over from vaginal candida treatment. So, was my thigh rash from candida?

I had a red, dry, itchy rash on my thigh for 2 weeks that kept getting bigger because I scratched. It stopped itching and turned purple the day I applied fluconazole left-over from vaginal candida treatment. So, was my thigh rash from candida?

Did it improve?: It is never a good idea to use prescription medication for uses other than for what it was prescribed. That being said the question here is did your rash improve after applying the anti fungal cream? If so then most likely this was a fungal infection. If not improved consider a virtual visit with an image of the area attached and a Healthtap doctor can help you now. ...Read more

21 days Diflucan (fluconazole) for monilial esophagitis. Had swallowing issue for couple yrs. Saw HIV can cause? No sex in over yr, last tested neg. Worried? Not gay

Not HIV, but...: Negative HIV test results overrule all other considerations. If done long enough after your last possible exposure (4-12 weeks, depending on exact test), the negative result proves you don't have HIV. However, this is an unusual infection if immunity normal, and it is correct to be concerned about some sort of immune deficiency. Discuss with your doctor, maybe see an infecious diseases specialist. ...Read more
