Albuterol Sulfate And Sulfa Allergy
I'm allergic to Erythromycin-anaphylaxis
Sulfa drugs- rash can I use polymyxin b sulfate eye drops?
Yes: Polymyxin is an effective anti-bacterial. You could use it without the allergies popping up as it has with others. However: are you sure you need this drop? It seems as if you are using an antibiotic for every eye inflammation, most of which are probably not bacterial. And in so doing you have sensitized yourself to antibiotics that you might need for an actual infection. ...Read more
Ventolin is the trade name for the chemical / drug albuterol. This drug is a medicine to be inhaled to open the airways and it acts quickly, so it is called a "short-acting bronchodilator". The medicine comes in both a hand-held inhaler and as a liquid to be used with a nebulizer machine . It also comes in a liquid form to take by mouth, but this should not be used ...Read more
Sulfa allergy?: Not all sulfas cross react. Sulfa antibiotics do not cross react with most other sulfa drugs. Of course you could develop a second allergy though it is unlikely. ...Read more
Is polytrim eye drops ok for someone allergic to bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) sulfa?
Depends: If you have a well documented history of an anaphylactic reaction to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and sulfa in the past (you could not breath and had to go to the er), it is better to choose a different eye drop as you can get a similar allergy with polytrim. In my experience, prior history of "allergy" may not be a true allergy. But tell the md who treated you to be on the same side. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
If allergic to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) & Ceclor, is allergy to all sulfa drugs & cephalosporins assumed?
NO: While ipratropium is generally used for copd, and usually in combination with albuterol, albuterol is generally used in asthma. So no harm, but may not achieve the goal of therapy when used in itself in either condition. Further since it is anticholinergic, excess usage will cause its own side effects. ...Read more

Can I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and also use allergy eye drops (naphazoline & pheniramine)?
Can I take an otc antihistamine along with bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and prednisone? It is not for allergic reaction from bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim), just for pollen allergy
Yes: However, you may find that the prednisone (assuming you're using it for something else) helps more for the pollen allergy than antihistamine. If you are receiving treatment for chronic or worsening sinus pressure/infection, then I strongly recommend seeing an Allergist to get help in the future. Recurrent sinus infections will persist unless the allergy is addressed properly. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Macrolide antibiotics like ees (erythromycin ethyl succinate) will be safe. But if your allergic reaction was some time ago, you may want to consider seeing an allergist for pcn testing. Skin testing is now very accurate. You may have outgrown your pcn allergy, or may have even been misdiagnosed, which happens often. ...Read more
Yes: Although it seems paradoxical, it is sometimes prudent to use a beta-blocker at the same time as a beta-agonist. I assume that the albuterol is being used as an inhaler. If you are wheezing, and you respond to albuterol, you may benefit from inhaled albuterol (typically a short course, as other therapies are likely to be beneficial in chronic use.) there can be untoward side effects. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
