Health insurance in fairbanks, ak dear doctors: my husband and I just moved to fairbanks, ak from ca. It turns out my health insurance (blue shield) from work doesn't have coverage outside of ca unless I go with ppo. I don't think it's affordable for me
The: The easiest way to do this is to call the physician you would like to see there (do it backwards, find a good doctor then get the insurance) and ask them about the plans they accept and then do the research which one of those would be best and most economical for you. This is probably a good universal rule to follow. There are so many insurances and within each one so many plans that its easier to get help from the doctor you would like to see and the hospital they trust most. ...Read more

How do you get rid of ak skin growths and bumps on your face and also skin tags. Is there a home remedy?
Not really.: Ak stands for "actinic keratosis" - they are small crusty bumps caused by chronic sun damage. Dermatologists usually freeze them with liquid nitrogen; for severe cases a strong cream containing 5-FU or Imiquimod is used. Skin tags can be clipped off, or if they are large enough, you can tie a thread around each one to cut off blood supply. But most people (wisely, I think) let their doctor do this. ...Read more
Is 14 day carac cream treatment worth doing? I've been approved by my Dr. Who treated me for 2 small peeling AK areas. Any treatment advice?
Fluorouracil: This is worth doing if you have quite a few skin changes due to the sun - actinic keratoses, hyperpigmentations etc. It is not an easy treatment and can cause some discomfort and temp cosmetic changes. The ultimate result however, is nice and the skin will be rid of any of above changes and is usually quite smooth! Do not do if you have any social events or work presentations etc upcoming! ...Read more
Disturbing question.: If by 'my doctor', you mean your primary care internist or family practitioner, it is hard for me understand how that doc is already closely involved with your care.
