Variable Times: Improvement in asthma control following administration of Advair diskus (salmeterol and fluticasone) can occur within 30 minutes, although maximum benefit may not be achieved for 1 week or longer after starting treatment. Follow up: These findings do indicate that there is mild airflow obstruction and involvement of the small airways.
Your smoking history is significant and I hope that you have quite smoking and will avoid inhaling smoke.
Your follow up study should include testing with and without a bronchodilator.

Can lungs air trapping be cured or treated, or is it permanent?

Air trapping is: usually caused by asthma, reactive airways disease, or bronchitis. Inflammation of the tiny airways leading to the alveoli get clogged or narrowed, which traps the air inside the alveoli. This is usually reversible by decreasing the inflammation in the bronchioles with steroids, anti-inflammatories, and bronchodilators. ...Read more

What can cause Air Trapping in the absence of COPD/Asthma?

What can cause Air Trapping in the absence of COPD/Asthma?

Obstructed airways: I think context would be helpful in order to answer this question satisfactorily. Air trapping is a symptom or sign of obstructed airways where the air has an easier time getting in than out. Conditions like COPD, Emphysema and Asthma are the usual causes and can be seen on xray as flattening of the diaphragm and on spirometry as a increased Functional Residual Capacity. Other causes are rare. ...Read more

Xray states:narrowed mediastinum attributed to marked air trapping in keeping with copd, plueral spaces in tact.Is it serious? What can be done to help

Copd: The findings suggest airway changes from smoking. Did you also have a history of asthma which can contribute to these findings? The best thing you can do to avoid worsening of the COPD is to stop smoking entirely and avoid air pollution in general. If you have pulmonary symptoms, i suggest you have an evaluation by a pulmonologist. ...Read more

If you had a an air embolism due to air being trapped in the vaginal cavity; how long would it take to show signs/ symptoms?

Not happening: Air in the vaginal cavity is normal- it doesn't' get absorbed into the blood stream from there. An air embolism is a bubble of air within a blood vessel. For it to cause symptoms that bubble has to be relatively large. Air emboli are rarely seen in patients with central lines in the hospital that have retained air in the IV tubing or within a syringe and directly injected into the vessels. ...Read more

CT scan shows " mild Air Trapping" secondary to Asthma. At PT, my oxygen flow was 80% after 3 min walk. SOB upon any exertion. How do i fix this?

See allergist: Your oxygen level is too low even for simple asthma and thus you may need to get more studies to rule out lung scarring etc. Consult an allergist in the meanwhile to make sure that you are on the right track. Right now, I see no asthma control drug on your file. Don't delay. ...Read more

My chest x-ray shows hyperinflated lungs. Can anxiety cause air trapping from poor breathing?

NO: Air trappin is generally due to air OBSTRUCTION in the smaller lung (bronchial) tubes. S guess a VERY DEEP Breath ...held while the xray is taken could give an appearance of hyperinflation but Radiologist know the difference!!! BTW anxiety generally is associated with rapid shallow breathing...Hope this helps!

What they: are calling dependent changes are usually normal and simply related to the effect of gravity on your lungs when you lay on your back. "Air trapping" relates to retention of excess air in the lungs or parts of the lungs. The CT findings of air trapping can be seen in normal individuals, but also in asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other entities, so talk to your doc about the results. ...Read more
