Air Trapping Symptoms
How long does advair disqus 250/50 take to completely relieve lung air trapping symptoms due to allergy??
Variable Times: Improvement in asthma control following administration of Advair diskus (salmeterol and fluticasone) can occur within 30 minutes, although maximum benefit may not be achieved for 1 week or longer after starting treatment. Of course each individual will experience a variable time to onset and degree of symptom relief. If your asthma is more severe this medication alone might not provide adequate relief. These findings do indicate that there is mild airflow obstruction and involvement of the small airways.
Your smoking history is significant and I hope that you have quite smoking and will avoid inhaling smoke.
Your follow up study should include testing with and without a bronchodilator.
This will help your physician determine responsiveness to the medication. ...Read more
Sometimes: If air trapping predated pneumonia (asthma or COPD) patient may have underlying condition that could lead to superimposed pneumonia. Pneumonia may exist with area of compensatory hyperaeration which is not air trapping,. Viral pneumonia certainly can be associated with air trapping. Common bacterial pneumonias usually are not air trapping. ...Read more
I have lymphangioleiomyomatosis and with it I have "air trapping". Do you know of any good exercises that i can do from home to help with it? Thanks!
Air trapping is: usually caused by asthma, reactive airways disease, or bronchitis. Inflammation of the tiny airways leading to the alveoli get clogged or narrowed, which traps the air inside the alveoli. This is usually reversible by decreasing the inflammation in the bronchioles with steroids, anti-inflammatories, and bronchodilators. ...Read more
Obstructed airways: I think context would be helpful in order to answer this question satisfactorily. Air trapping is a symptom or sign of obstructed airways where the air has an easier time getting in than out. Conditions like COPD, Emphysema and Asthma are the usual causes and can be seen on xray as flattening of the diaphragm and on spirometry as a increased Functional Residual Capacity. Other causes are rare. ...Read more
What is Air Trapping? Is it always related to Asthma/COPD, or can it be harmless/anxiety related?
I was diagnosed on a VQ scan with bilateral air trapping and was referred to a pulmonologist. I am only 22, and I have bad pain in my chest. Causes?
Xray states:narrowed mediastinum attributed to marked air trapping in keeping with copd, plueral spaces in tact.Is it serious? What can be done to help
Copd: The findings suggest airway changes from smoking. Did you also have a history of asthma which can contribute to these findings? The best thing you can do to avoid worsening of the COPD is to stop smoking entirely and avoid air pollution in general. If you have pulmonary symptoms, i suggest you have an evaluation by a pulmonologist. ...Read more
Possibly: Possibly, but the diagnosis should be made with pulmonary function tests. Other things can cause the chest X-ray appearance of hyper expansion/air trapping. ...Read more
If you had a an air embolism due to air being trapped in the vaginal cavity; how long would it take to show signs/ symptoms?
Not happening: Air in the vaginal cavity is normal- it doesn't' get absorbed into the blood stream from there. An air embolism is a bubble of air within a blood vessel. For it to cause symptoms that bubble has to be relatively large. Air emboli are rarely seen in patients with central lines in the hospital that have retained air in the IV tubing or within a syringe and directly injected into the vessels. ...Read more
What to do if I have what feels like hyperinflated lungs, although my recent expiratory CT scan shows no air trapping.?

Had my pulmonary function test. Fev1 117%, dclo 93%, rv 93%, erv 63%. Is this okay? I've been told i had air trapping before. I have sob on exertion.
Incomplete report: Another set of measurements which will help define whether there is air trapping is the RV/TLC ratio which should be listed on the report. It can be elevated in obstructive disease. I hope that this helps. ...Read more

CT scan shows " mild Air Trapping" secondary to Asthma. At PT, my oxygen flow was 80% after 3 min walk. SOB upon any exertion. How do i fix this?
See allergist: Your oxygen level is too low even for simple asthma and thus you may need to get more studies to rule out lung scarring etc. Consult an allergist in the meanwhile to make sure that you are on the right track. Right now, I see no asthma control drug on your file. Don't delay. ...Read more
Air trappin is generally due to air OBSTRUCTION in the smaller lung (bronchial) tubes. S guess a VERY DEEP Breath ...held while the xray is taken could give an appearance of hyperinflation but Radiologist know the difference!!! BTW anxiety generally is associated with rapid shallow breathing...Hope this helps!

Ct chest no contrast says hyperinflation. Dr says CT was normal & long torso is the reason lungs look big. Would air trapping & bullous show up in ct?
37 wks preg. CT scan of lungs ruled out oulmonary embolism but showed minor dependency change and atelectasis. suggested air trapping. is this concern?
What they: are calling dependent changes are usually normal and simply related to the effect of gravity on your lungs when you lay on your back. "Air trapping" relates to retention of excess air in the lungs or parts of the lungs. The CT findings of air trapping can be seen in normal individuals, but also in asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other entities, so talk to your doc about the results. ...Read more
Anxiety: Many folks who are highly anxious have a fear on not getting enough air. When we are between sleeping and waking we can feel quite vulnerable and pull out of the relaxed state with a start. Symptoms....: Air embolism is very serious and is often life-threatening. Symptoms can include sudden onset of shortness of breath, chest pain, hallucinations, passing out, low oxygen levels, cardiac arrhythmias, etc. There also needs to be a way for air to enter the bloodstream, travel to the heart/lungs and obstruct. This always requires emergent care and can be deadly. ...Read more
