Is erythematosus lupus a viral infection treated by shingles antibiotic?

Not a virus yet: Systemic lupus erythematosis is an autoimmune disease where antibodies are directed at one`s own tissues including joints, skin, kidneys, lungs and even brain. While we now have excellent treatments for this once commonly fatal disease, we do not know the trigger or triggers that set off the immune system. Can herpes that causes innocent oral fever blisters & cold sores be sexually transited to someone else as genital herpes?

These viruses are always adapting and looking for 'new opportunities' and although traditionally, HSV-1 kept to the mouth/nose and HSV-2 kept to the genital tract, there can be 'back and forth' transmission of these viruses in susceptible patients. We call that virus VZV or varicella zoster virus. These viruses are found in the 'herpes' family of viruses. Great observation. I hope though you're not suffering too badly from these nasty viruses. There is a chickenpox vaccine out there BTW. ...Read more

Unlikely: There is a definite association between herpes simplex type 2 and recurrent (mollaret's) meningitis, but encephalitis would be very unusual in an immune competent host. On the other hand, genital herpes can be due to type 1, and that can certainly, but uncommonly, produce meningitis, encephalitis or meningoencephalitis unpredictably. ...Read more
