Use your garment: Swelling is normal. Some times is quite severe but usually resolves. You should wear your garment as much as possible for the first two weeks. If it is too uncomfortable get the next size up but remember that once your swelling goes down you might need the other one. ...Read more

Edema: You are still at risk for acute swelling in that time frame, can be isolated to a limited area. Could also be small seroma [a fluid collection], reapply the compression garment if swelling does not resolve than could be seroma and see your surgeon. ...Read more

No help now: There are some repairs in the literature that have shown a benefit in preventing seromas by using a compression garment, but once one forms, it will most likely not help make it go away faster. I less it is causing problems, such as pain, or enlarging significantly, i tell my patients to proceed about their usual activities as it should resolve within 6 months. No need for ct scans or ultrasounds. ...Read more

Seek attention: The ESR being high is normal after surgery to a certain degree. Your grandmother needs to see her doctor to determine if she is having effects from a low hb, what her normal is, and to evaluate to see if a transfusion is needed. It depends: There are many factors to consider. Surgery for TMJ is extremely aggressive and invasive. I would exhaust other treatment options like an oral appliance to adjust jaw position or Botox injections to relive discomfort. Not rare: I can't give you a percentage, but if you consider all the variety of procedures possible, from oral extractions to skin lesions to orthopoedic repairs to simple hernias to the complex GI procedure to cardiothoracic procedures, there's a good chance something will be needed, and i'm not even including colonoscopy and other endoscopic procedures. May need to go to ER: If you have been told that you have a tumor and it is causing these kinds of symptom, you need help. If this is a tumor that you know about, it could be affecting nerves in the neck or spinal cord. This is a possible emergency. If the pain is severe you need to go to the er.
