No: Charcoal will not harm you. What gas comes out after gastric bypass is completely dependant on your diet. Try to reduce carbohydrates. See your bariatric program and see if they can help you. ...Read more

Gas pains: It might be coincidental in relation to happening after intercourse. However, gastric bypass patients can get bacterial overgrowth which can cause gas pains, excessive gas production, and foul smelling gas. She can get a simple breath test to determine if she has it. I have long time post prandial reflux whre food/liquid comes up w/ burp.GP Rx PPi's . Its helping mostly but mild nausea/wet burp,gas is still thre. No vomiting, mild pinching pain in gastric area sometime. Blood HB/Panc profile ok. Is it Gastric CA?

Very unlikely: It sounds like you are on the right track. The PPIs have helped, but you still have some residual reflux symptoms. This is common and may be improved by diet or other lifestyle approaches (elevate head of bed, etc). However, with persistent symptoms you should have an upper endoscopy (EGD) to assess the esophagus and stomach on treatment, and this procedure would also screen for gastric cancer. ...Read more

Biliary colic: These may be new symptoms unrelated to the bariatric surgery. Weight loss increases risk and incidence of gallstones. Gallstones can cause biliary colic: belching, bloating, upper abdominal pain after eating fatty foods that radiates into back. Okay to get see your doc. Gaseous: Is your gall bladder removed? To prevent gas build up, take simethicone 1/2 hours after meals. To break down gas bubbles, drink warm water and apply a hot water bottle to the abdomen which facilitates the moving of gas through the intestines rather than forcing yourself to belch it up as this causes more air swallowing. Perhaps an evaluation by a gastroenterologist is your best course of action. ...Read more

Not burping: This sounds like a mechanical problem. When you swallow air or gas, or your body produces air or gas from digestion (as with high fiber diets), there are only 2 ways to come out--the mouth or the anus. There is a sphincter muscle between the stomach and esophagus which, if tight, can reduce the ability to burp.
