After Flushing With Water How Long Before Creatinine Levels Return
Huh?: Are you trying to lower your serum creatinine by drinking a lot of water? Unless you had bad prerenal azotemia from dehydration, it won't work. Elevated serum creatinine is a marker either for a person being well-muscled (athletic men are being sent in large numbers to nephrologists because of liability concerns) or having kidney damage. Don't treat a lab value. ...Read more
Only water retaintio:
Poor renal function may cause sodium and water retention, but in general is better to drink a lot of water and cut on sodium. It will prevent kidney stones
if you know the cause of renal problem, more suggestions on diet (low purine or uric acid for instance) can be made. ...Read more
I took a drug screen and it came back diluted. I did not tamper with the test by drinking a lot of water and wondered if my creatinine levels are low and if so what can I do to increase the levels in my urine.?
See your pcp: Verifying that a urine sample is "human urine" includes checking the temperature, ph, specific gravity and concentration of creatinine. Disease states can cause an exceptionally low creatinine level so having your pcp do further tests is of value. The creatinine concentration tested for is rather wide and permits a quite low level as normal. So if you are lower it is worth looking into. ...Read more
Will my creatinine level raise from taking anabolic steroids? And will drinking lots of water bring it down for my drug screen that uses urine dilute
Both unlikely. . .: It's unlikely that anabolic steroids will affect your creatinine level, a measure of kidney function. Drinking water may decrease blood urea nitrogen (BUN) but not creatinine. Different drug screens test for different things. Most employers check for opioid abuse, not anabolic use, unlike sporting oversight groups. Unfortunately, there's no way to get stuff out of your system any faster or hide it ...Read more

CHF/ renal disease: This question is best asked to you cardiologist, as you have CHF and kidney damage so your fluid balance is very delicate. Drinking too much can put you back in CHF. Hi, I'm 26 years old male. Took fasting blood test (without having water) after working out for 2 hrs. Got serum creatinine as 1.78. Is it coz of gym?
Yes: When I was lifting every day, my serum creatinine ran 1.7. So do other gym guys. It's your muscle mass. The changes in bodybuilding (high creatinine, high body mass index) showcase the foolishness of diagnosing people with a healthy habit as "kidney disease patients" or "obese." the same factors drive this foolishness as drive much of the rest of our health care system dysfunction. ...Read more

Can serum creatinine show up lower if diluted due to water retention? SCr went down from 2.6 to 1.4 but I gained 20 lbs of water weight recently. Thx
Dehydration. ..: The scenario suggests she might have significant dehydration with marginally poor renal function; after rehydration with IV, s creatinine will drop and fluid would be distributed into her vascular & interstitial space. So, that is okay as long as having no heart failure and unwanted edema. More? Ask treating doc for individual specific questions since s/he knows more about hers than anyone online. ...Read more

Elevated creatinine: Creatinine is high stage 3 or 4 kidney failure. Even with kidney failure can produce urine, just not cleaning toxins out of the body. Diabetes and HTN cause renal failure, keep sugar under control and blood pressure. Avoid salt, medications like motrin, aleve (naproxen) iburprofen are toxic to the kidney, metals like in welding are toxic.
