Are there risks to immunizations?

Are there risks to immunizations?

Very, very small.: The biggest risk is in not getting immunized. There are no frivolous vaccines. Unless you have some unique situation the benefit will always be orders of magnitude greater than the risk. Minor soreness and fatigue for a day or so are a small price to pay for preventing the morbidity and mortality of mmr, hep b, etc. Ask anyone post polio. Our 17month's (hypoplastic/coarc op 1wk old) cardiologist recommended flu vaccine. Do the benefits outweigh the risks? What are the risks?

Yes. "None".: There is no reason a toddler nor a toddler's family, in the U.S., should have to suffer from influenza. There are "no risks" to getting a shot of individually dosed split-virus (not live) vaccine in the U.S. It's december now. A 17 month-old would have had prior flu shots this jan/feb. People afraid of things will worry about those rare allergic reactions, etc., that can happen with any medicine. ...Read more

Which vaccine is more effective? IPV or OPV fir preventing polio For kids ?

Which vaccine is more effective? IPV or OPV fir preventing polio For kids ?

Polio vaccines: OPV is more effective at preventing polio as it is a live attenuated virus. That being said , the risk to being administered the OPV is higher as polio is pretty much eradicated from the world, and the only cases of paralytic polio are from the oral vaccine. So, IMHO, the decision to go with the inactivated vaccine is the correct one and OPV is no longer available in the US. ...Read more
